Does the question presume there is a different reason than why ugly people do? I'd go so far as to say that life is, by default, a road to ruin. Some people allow the ruin to happen naturally, others do everything in their power to stave it off, and the third sort of people try to speedrun it using the addiction glitch.

Same reason ugly people do. Don't forget coffee, caffeine, aspirin and tylenol are also drugs. AND people can become addicted to other things as well, like sex/porn, money, power, phones, tvs, computers, hobbies and sometimes even religion to the ruin of their lives as well.
