If someone often asked you if you were really that dumb would it make you feel bad after awhile?

Yes. I would feel bad after hearing that only one time, much less over and over.

If someone was asking me that...they would not get another chance. That is just abuse and I would not tolerate it.

it depends on how they said it and what happened before to make them say it.....if it was a friend...probably not too much, but if it was someone i didnt know or someone i hated, id probably punch them in the face!! lol

Of course it would make you feel bad. My advice would be to remove yourself from the vicinity of the abuser.

Yes it does. When you're not dumb and a step parent especially repeats it to you all the time for seriously no good reason except that you have a C instead of a B it kind of get to you after a couple of years. Thats why I'm glad we're no longer realitives. :)

It wouldn't have to happen often for me to feel hurt by it. I hope I would have the presence of mind to answer 'No, I am not that dumb. Are you that rude and insensitive?'

Unless I knew they were joking it would make me feel bad or angry immediately. If this is a pattern, it must be stopped. No one knows everything and there is no reason to belittle continuosly.

i think i would ask the person to ask the question in such a way as to help me understand our inability to communicate on the isue. when they said "huh", smile and ask "are you that dumb"

Yes. Although I know I'm not 'that dumb', it is normal for negative things like that to hurt you. I just try not to show that I'm hurt and hope the other person will just drop the insults already.

well, I know im not dumb, so it wouldnt bother me, I mean, seriously, how many people are really dumb?? they may be lacking about klnowledge in some aspect or area, but that doesnt make them overall dumb !!

No, because I know I am not dumb; gullible, neive. I realize, people(including spouse), simply don't think the way I do. Ethically,morally,spiritually, and that a lot of times in general life, I DON'T always use common sense and if someone shows me how I didn't, I can accept criticism.

I think it would depend on who said it. But most of the time I would agree with them. I don't really care what people think of my intelligence.

I sincerely doubt anyone would say that to me. I may be dumb, but I'm tougher than a 2$ steak. If they said it more than once, it would be on like neckbone.

We become what we're told we are. My teacher told me that and at first I wanted to argue but the more I thought about it the more I realized that she's right. Scary thought huh?

I'd say "I'm rubber, you're glue" And anyone with the intelligence of a mud pie, wouldn't ask such (dumb) questions. Don't listen to a person who is obviously trying to look superior to you. Laugh at the irony of it all. Don't feel bad! You aren't dumb, unless you (let) them make you believe you are. You have it all together! And they can't stand it!!!!!!!!!:)

As long as your not playing dumb for attention it shows that person's ignorance. Everybody is good at something. Asking questions and being curious is certainly not being dumb. Hang around people who appreciate you for who you are:)
