Your actually dealing with a project that may not be worth the time money or hassle. More than likely you have a factory amplified system in your vehicle running about 15 watts RMS to each speaker at 2 ohms. When you switch to a after market system the speakers will run at around 50 watts RMS at 4 ohms. what this means is that it may even sound worse if you just change out your speakers with new ones, with out replacing or bypassing the amp as well. If you decide to bypass the amp to install new better speakers you will also have to change out your head unit "stereo" because the one thats in there now only sends a signal to the amp and that all, wont work without the amp. to achieve ultimate sound in you vehicle replace you head unit with a Alpine at the 180-200.00 range. buy a small alpine 4 channel amp capable of running around 40 watts RMS to each speaker. Here is where I do a 180 on you for your speakers Infinity reference or Kappas, I think the Kappas will be to much for you vehicle and not needed. The Infinity Reference has a silk dome tweeter which alows a clean not tinny vocal. built in crossovers to adjust for different ears and vehicles, last you can angle the tweaters in them so the sound is projected to your ears not to your feat. if you want a little more Bass let me rephrase that "Acoustic Bass" then check out the infinity bass link, very clean and adds in that little low kick needed to give warmth to your music. To find all of this go to your local Best Buy they carry all of this there, your welcome and i hope this helped

Head Unit is just the radio CD player in your vehicle. if you have a factory amplified system there are not any pre-outs for RCA it's as factory basic as you can get and useless for any aftermarket devices. in other words don't use your factory amp on aftermarket speakers. Take it over to a Best Buy near you have them take a look, and take a look at the speakers i was tell you about. if they add anything to your shopping list that your not sure about let me know and i will tell you if you need it or not! Thanks Phill

Well, I was a Car install manager at a Best Buy for two years, and the sales/install team can be hit or miss. Most often they are miss. If you want great answers, go to a reputable custom shop, or a Tweeter store. They will be better trained with a 5.1 application. You can take their advice and buy the equipment wherever you wish. The specific details that the associates at a custom shop will ask for will result in a much better reccomendation that will suit you. If you want to research yourself, Alpine makes a great 5.1 dobly digital equipment package, but you want someone who knows exactly what it entales to install it. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=168450&i=500PXAH701&tp=84 It is a very expensive replacement to factory 5.1, and the processor is just one component of the whole system. That's why you should speak to an intelligent retail person. Most sales associates at Best Buy (at least in Illinois) know 2-channels, four channels, and subs, not 5.1 surround A/V systems. For basic stuff, Best Buy is fine, but something like this, I would tread lightly.
