I just looked this up and it happened in 2019. I don't think the Japanese were unaware of the event. I didn't search far enough I guess. It DID just happen. 3/23/26

The search just showed this later than the other one; During meetings in March 2026, Trump spoke with Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi shortly after the U.S. and Israel carried out a strike on Iran. While defending why he didn’t warn allies ahead of time, he brought up Pearl Harbor.
