  • Everyone doesn't have clinical depression. Psychiatrists have a series of questions they ask and based on your answers they make a diagnosis. Then they usually prescribe a medication. Disability is usually determined by the individual agencies to which you are applying, not the psychiatrist. And in the US if you haven't been hospitalized for your depression (which usually means you're suicidal) they will usually deny your claim the first time. I don't know where you are or the agency in question so I can't give any more accurate information.
