Baptists believe that the Holy Spirit comforts believers as well as bestowing spiritual gifts to serve God. I personally do not know any Baptist that believe that speaking in tongues is for present times but rather a gift given to the early churches. In general, Baptists also believe that miraculous healing through a human medium was done away with when the Bible was completed. God can heal people, of course but He doesn't require another person to do this. In my personal spritual life, I received the Holy Spirit when I became a Christian. I've been very close to God and I've never spoke in tongues nor have I wanted to. I walk by faith -- Hebrews 11:1. I do not seek signs.

AS A BAPTIST, I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT THE BIBLE IS REAL AND AN INSPIRATION FROM GOD. WE CAN READ IN MARK, ACTS, AND IN 2nd CORINTHIANS THAT THE SPEAKING OF TONGUES IS A GIFT GIVEN BY GOD. AS A GOD GIVEN GIFT, IT SHOULD BE RESPECTED AND NOT ABUSED. ANYONE HAVING THAT GIFT, SHOULD USE IT CORRECTLY AS INSTRUCTED BY PAUL IN THE SCRIPTURES. BAPTISTS ARE CHRISTIANS WHO BELIEVE IN THE BIBLE; THEREFORE, EVERY WORD IN THE BIBLE SHOULD BE ACCEPTED AND TREASURED. PASTORS OF ALL DENOMINATIONS (BAPTISTS INCLUDED) SHOULD ALLOW THE HOLY SPIRIT TO MANIFEST FREELY IN WHICHEVER WAYS HE PLEASES. HE'S REAL,MEANINGFUL AND NEEDED BY ALL CHRISTIANS REGARDLESS OF THEIR DENOMINATION. ANYONE REJECTING THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN'T BE CONSIDERED A TRUE, FAITHFUL CHRISTIAN AND WILL SADDEN AND OFFENSE THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Well, some don't, and some believe it was only for Bible times, but there are also those of us who believe it is a unique gift from God that should be desired (in First Corinthians). However, I've never spoken in tongues and I don't believe neither have any other Baptists I know.

Speaking in tongues in the days of the apostles meant that they were given the ability, without formla language training, to speak and understand other people's language so the "good news" could be spread further... Can anyone claim to know other languages apart from their own ...without some form of training...??? The ability was granted by God for only a short time...it does not happen today... (Acts 2:4) and they all became filled with holy spirit and started to speak with different tongues, just as the spirit was granting them to make utterance.

Can somebody who does not believe in tounges or the gifts of the Holy Spirit please please tell me why our God who is so loving and powerful would want to take away a gift that is so powerful and precious and was used to win souls for the kingdom. Isn't that Gods ultimate plan, to redeem His children back to Him. Or please tell me why He would only give it to the Apostles for a short time to win souls and then say well sorry folks now your on your own. No more gifts. I believe He said He would not withhold anything from us. Come on Our God is passionate about us and the lost. His will is that none should perish but that all should have eternal life. He is willing to go as far as sending His son to die for us but He says nope I'm not gonna give them tounges or gifts, I'm keeping those. Come on have some faith and stop trying to keep God in a box. It's fine if you don't believe but don't say that that's the way it is. You limit God as soon as you do and say He's not willing to give us everthing to win souls and fight the enemy. Please at least say I don't believe but it could happen. Sorry for being so blunt but somebody has to say loosen up.
