Yes. Saves energy. My 2 cents.
-
Yes.
-
I shut it down any time I'm not using it.
-
Sometimes.
-
A few people don't, but I prefer to switch them both off at night. Saves on electricity.
-
No, I never shut it off.
-
Yes. Sometimes it is not powered up for over 24 hours after I go to sleep.
-
I used to keep it on all night so I wouldn't have to start it up in the morning, but that's caused some problems for my computer so I don't do it anymore.
-
I do sometimes, but most of the time I don't. During the night is when my computer updates, virus scans and defrags.
-
I turn it off at night and during the day if I'm away from it for any longer period of time. I had a computer that died from prolonged use. I was told by the computer guy that computers wear out because they still cycle and run even if you don't use them.
-
I turn it off at night and whenever I'm not using it. Just my quirk.
-
No, my computer is on all the time.
-
I always do:)
-
no. it never gets shut off unless I am leaving town
-
I do not, I usually fall asleep while watching a movie on it.
-
yeah, I do!
-
I hibernate it and turn it off whenever I go to bed or leave my house.
-
Absolutely, saves energy, as even in hibernation mode it still draws around 15 watts (Not including Monitor), not much you may think for just one computer but multiply that by 100 million computers and that's a lot of wattage, one of the first studies on computer wattage usage is from the 1980's yearly savings just by turning them off ended up saving nearly $150,000 just in one year. ~Nemo~
-
Yes I have to,,,my parents are very fuzzy about wasting electricity
-
always
-
yes i do .
-
Yes. I live in a small house and it is loud. before she worked nights, it used to keep my wife up. Besides, I have dial-up with a four-hour session limit.
-
Not just every night but every time I am not going to use the machine for more than 1/2 hour I always shut down.
-
I haven't turned off my computer in 5 years.
-
Yeah. I don't like to leave it on at night.
-
Yes i always do it otherwise I can here this interference for the night through the wal :)
-
I leave mine on most of the time, but I turn off the monitor because it takes more electricity to run the monitor than it does to run the computer.
-
Always... unless I decide to defrag it. I've set it to automatically shut off when it lays dormant for a while anyhow.
-
Anytime that I know when I'm going to be away for a length of time, I turn it off.
-
yes!
-
Yes, I will certainly turn off my computer at night since I am using it and I do not normally download anything from the internet through the night. Beside this I also consider the saving of power, even though its usage may not be very high.
-
Course I do.
-
No, it makes a great night light! I always turn my computer off at work every night
-
No, its a server and runs backup and disk defragmentation overnight
-
Yes there is not a plug in my house on during the night.
-
I just put mine to sleep.
-
yes if im not on it i do.:)
-
I turn mine off at night. I'm not using it, am I? Unless of course I'm downloading something.
-
No, I don't, I give my computer slow-tasks at night, for exam downloading large files or... my computer is always-on
-
Often I just let my computer go into sleep mode over night. I click on any key in the morning to wake it up in order to address my overnight "new" activity from AB. OT: I did come up with a good answer for your "Star Wars location" question of 9/22/08. http://js.answerbag.com/a_view/4080708
-
Not really, though a computer should always be shut off when not using it... it's not in my to shut it off.
-
No. I put it to sleep.
-
I usually hibernate... and if I forget, 30 minutes later it does it itself.
-
No
-
No, I usually put it to sleep.
-
It's usually smart to turn it off when you're done with it. If there's a power outtage or an electrical surge your computer is much less at risk when the hard drives are spun down. If your computer gets shut down improperly you risk corrupting a portion of your hard drive which is not easy to fix and can easily trash the entire drive. But when your computer is off then the hard drive platters are spun down and the head is stored to the side so there is no risk even if you jostle it around.
-
Yes, I turn it off.
-
Yes, it saves energy and money!
-
Yes. excpet download some files or other. I am afraid it will explode. It's a joke...
-
of course cause, the sense of the "save electricity."
-
YES I DO. SAVES ELECTRICITY!
-
No, pirating doesn't allow my computer to take a break.
-
yes, i do turn off my computer at night "}
-
No, I run a server on it and just in case a slow mail provider decides to mail me at 2 in the morning, my computer will be on to receive ;D
-
Yes, I do.
-
No.
-
I do.
-
Yes I do. No need for it to stay on. I don't like stand by things.
-
No I don't, I am rendering animation or 3-D environments that take hours to do, so I do them when I am sleeping so I can get more work done during the day...
-
Yes I do.
-
Yes, any time i don't plan on using it, i have it off :)
-
Yes, off is the usual position yo...
-
Yes, and every time I'm not using it.
-
I never do. But even if you don't turn it off at night... you need to take at least a couple hours each day and leave it off so that your computer can take a break and of course run updates when you boot it back on.
-
No -- it's risky and not cost-effective. Cycling the main power always puts a strain on electronics & is especially bad if mechanical hard drives have to spin up & down rather than just keep spinning -- it makes a crash more likely. Less of an issue for flash-memory drives. I turn off the monitor, however -- no point in keeping that on. Some turn themselves off when inactive. But I leave the system unit running perpetually -- what I'd save in electricity isn't worth increasing the risk of a far more costly computer crash.
-
nope i only log off
-
I do, but not based on electronically sophisticated information.
-
I switch mine off at nighttime and if I'm away for long periods of time. It's saves a lot on the electricity bill and cuts down on your carbon foot print. I don't get it why some people leave stuff switched on and are not using it.
-
lol no cuz i need to check e-mail when i wake up...
-
Yeah, any time I'm not using it it's off.
-
i always shut down my pc when not in use.
-
Yep! I think everyone else should too! :)
-
Yes I do. Saves on electricity and it sounds like a train in a quiet room. :) I need a new computer I guess.
-
Usually yes, unless it is a very cold night.
-
No. Havent done that for years. Fan is likely to never start again if I shut it down LoL ~ it's a bit of a gamble just rebooting it!
-
I probably should but I put it on hiberante

Of course I am. I only use it when I need, and if I don't I will turn it off.

Always - there is no good reason to leave it on when it isn't in use.
-
yesΓ―ΒΌΕI turn my computer off at night if I do not need to use it. I just turn on my computer when I have to use it
-
I put it on standby.
-
no all my updates and cleanups are done at night
-
no i just let my idle alnight. i log off but i do not turn off my coumpter
-
I leave it on all the time. Surprisingly, it makes your computer last longer that way. You cause more wear and tear on your computer by shutting it down and powering it back on again. Every time you start it up, it sends an initial jolt of power through the system which, if done enough over time, causes slight damage to the electrical processes of your computer. If you leave it running 24/7, the power flow is always steady and controlled and the electronics inside will last longer. On top of that, computers don't use up a lot of power, so it won't wreck your electrical bill to keep it running all the time.
