I am Chinese. People here certainly not eat live monkey or other live animals. Serveral years ago,an article appeared on the internet claimed that some resturants in the YunNan Province in southwest China offered live money. The article spreaded over every bbs in no day.All of us codemn the managers and the customers of such resturants. However,no one knows whether it is true or not of all the article has claimed. All I can tell you is:My friends,my family and I have never ate live money and have never heard of somebody have ate one.

yea when i was a kid in northern china near Mongolia they had live monkey brains they had a table where there was a hold in the middle and it split down the center where the monkeys neck would be locked so the head would be on top of the table and the body under then a man would come and hammer and chip away the top of the monkeys head where then they would apply salt and stir the monkey brain in to soup where the money was still awake
-
I don't think that is true.
-
I hope not :(
-
I've heard the story about the table with the hole in the middle and everybody taking turns smacking it with a hammer until the top of the skull would come off... but I heard it was in Africa. Hopefully it's all just stupid folklore.
-
i hope its not alive when u eat it
-
It is impossible to eat a brain and have the animal living. Not to get too graphic but a couple of spoonfuls and bye bye monkey. It's a hoax.
-
I have a good friend who was in the Army as bodyguard to U.S. diplomats. He did experience this meal (and the very-much-aliveness of the monkey). It grossed him out. I also had a student in a class whose father had taken part in the same. Both report that this is a very expensive meal and not for the common man.
-
I'm not positive about the monkey still being alive, but i'm aware that people in China eat a lot of cooked animals, and i'm not talking about the usual Chicken, Beef, Pork or Lamb. The belief that the item is good for you in one way or another, and that's why its being consume ... There was once a saying by an Australian presenter/traveller - He said people in China eat anything that has legs except a table, and i totally agree!
-
How can a monkey be alive if it's brain is being eaten??
-
sorry people it is true. I spend 1/2 my life in all parts of China and see many types of brain being eaten. Bear, owl, brains and testicals of all types - there is nothing they wont eat alive or dead. The monkey table isnt around anymore, if you read books detailing china early on in the century and before you will read of the tables with a hole. A Chronicle of the Cultural Revolution author Gao Yuan is just one of them worth a read. Brain is still avaialable but not so much in the table form. They cut the skull of and boar boiling oil onto it to cook it - its not alive for long. I have been in resturants where they serve 'drunked shrimp', which is drowned in brandy while you wait, cheese lobster, where the cheese is mixed into a part boiled lobsters guts - as its served the arms and eyes are still moving. Makes me glad im a vegi!
-
well as story has it and told any thing that has it back to the sky is eaten
-
yes and it is a extremely expensive treat culture shock for me while the monkey screams for his life as his head is trapped in a hole in the table the chef chops it off for the party or family or five or six and they are ready to dig in yes this is true
-
It's absolutely true, rent the movie Faces Of Death part 1. You'll see it for yourself.
-
God no! That's disgusting! I'm Chinese myself (well, half-Chinese) and I've NEVER heard of such meal...I have never heard of brains - whether from live animals or dead - treated as food. However, I wouldn't be surprised if tribal people in Manchuria, Tibet, Uyghur or Inner Mongolia (one of those desert-like areas) eat monkey brains. Though I am no expert in those places. I've only been exposed to Guang Zhou and southern China, and I've never been to those areas.
-
It is not cared about the living or being dead of the animal but the eaters take their bite of delight as soon as possible as we know about.
-
No, they don't. That's just a lie to created by anti-Chinese people to spread their hate.
-
yes chinese people do..unfortunately..it still happening...chinese are going to parts of asia where theres heaps of monkeys eg cambodia and paying good money like $200U.S to eat a monkeys brain while still alive! It is disgusting i know...but critics that dont believe it..they should go to south east asia and go to the restaurants and order monkeys brain..and they will give it to you..Im khmer and i have seen it (chinese people) come to my country to eat it..and the monkey dies when they start eating it. Very sad! But it is the truth!
-
Yes they do, why do you think they are doing so well at the olympics brains are performance enhancing. Then they send the brainless monkeys to America to become politicians.
-
Unfortunately one of my Chinese students regaled my ESL class with the details of his live monkey brain dining experience - much to the disgust of the other students, INCLUDING several Chinese ones. The monkeys are intoxicated with rice wine first. The real shame is that it is probably the Western culture's morbid facination with this grizly tale that has encouraged the trade.

chinese are barbaric people! I have a friend who went on vacation in China, and she saw the horrific monkey and other animal cruelties! They really eat monkey brains and she even saw the monkey crying and screaming to death while blood flows into his face! They even slaugther dogs in the streets, even the dogs used in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and they have such crueltry to wild animals, their skin animals alive in their fur farms without any exception to stray dogs and cats!Exotic foods doesn't mean that you Chinese would have to be cruel to helpless animals! Watch peta and you will know how they really care for these animals..if they really do.
-
The Chinese eat monkey brains. Yes they do! No wonder they even consider eating even the fetus which belongs to their entire race, Chinese are animals tyrants and cannibals! Yuck! HoIs this what you call Chinese civilization? A civilized person will not do such barbaric practice just like what these Chinese do!
-
actually this is in fact true. My friend went to study in china, and after she graduated, her friends took her to a fancy restaurant. She told me that when she walked in, she heard all kinds of screaming. She asked her friend, and her friend told her that it's monkey screams. After that, she sat on the table, saw the whole thing, and threw up right on the table. My friend stopped eating completely for 2 days after this event, and she's a vegetarian now. P.S chinese people are known for the fact that the eat anything that walks! this is disgusting, and yes i hate chinks:)

A good friend who died 20 years ago served in mainland China during WWII as a translator for the US Army. He was in Hong Kong for a celebration of its liberation and said the party was served fresh monkey brains scooped out of the live primate strapped underneath the table - he didn't partake in that course. Is it true? I believe my friend - since I have never caught him in any lie or exaggeration about his travels or experiences abroad.
-
It should be completely banned. Its sick and barbaric -do these people think animals do not feel pain!? animals are beautiful creatures, especially monkeys and should be enjoyed and cared for...not cruely beaten and hurt. Sick people. hope one day someone smashes their skulls in..see how it feels

When I was a little girl in the early 50's my father - who had been a major in the British army as a ship's doctor - told me about this barbaric custom - he described the table and the eating. I just now looked this up as I wondered if what he had said was correct. I now see this on a video which confirms it. (The monkey appears to be dead after having his skull cracked with a few small hammers though he may just be unconscious.) I just never thought the custom would be continued in our more "enlightened" times. The people in the video do not look Chinese so I wonder where this scene takes place. (My father was in Rangoon and Singapore.) The title of the video is in lousy English - "Eating a Alive Monkey Brain to increase ur Wisdom" (sic)

they certainly eat monkeys in china i tell u wat they do: first, people sit around a table, a monkey is brought in ropes in the middle of the table. there is a hole in the middle of the table, the waiter puts the monkey in the hole. the monkey's head are still on the table. the customers then kick the monkey in the head several times, this causes the monkey to be angry and all the blood rushes to the head, then suddenly they cut of the monkey's head. then the people rushes to the beheaded monkey and eat the freah brain. sick like? it is true u know, i can assure u 100 percent that it is true
-
Geez. I hope not.
-
Would they be factory farm monkeys?
-
Wow... no. lol Who in the world told you that?
-
I go to China quite often. As far as I know they cook everything! It is even hard to get a fresh salad there. Now some of the things they eat have just been killed. I've been to a restaurant where the fish tried to jump out of the sauce but it was dead, and delicious, when I ate it. I think, in general, the Chinese have an aversion to eating live things so I absolutely doubt the story. That being said, they do have a recipe for about everything and Chinese food, in China, is much better than Chinese food in the U.S. except New York's China town.
-
No thats nonesense..
-
Die chinese people!!!

Yes it was definately a practice at least in the late fourties. I knew somebody who was a member of the French Foreign Army and foughtin Vietnam in 1948 on the side of the French. They were close to the Chinese border and soemtimes they would go over to China for fun. He had seen but not participated in monkey brain dinners where the monkey was tied under a table and live coal was put under his feet so that he would jump. There was a hole in the table for his skull and the waiter cut his skull open. The guests were nibbling from the brain with chopsticks. Also, he saw ducks in cages, the bottom of the cages were hot plates. The ducks were jumping because of pain. Blood flWhen they could not jump anymore they were killed and the feets were served as a treat.
