I've lived with it for more than thirty years.

It can lead to medical problems, and it seems to persist due to the negative thoughts. Basically if one can stop dwelling on past troubles and stop trying to make one feel worse, depression can be beat. Depression does lead to less eating, being lethargic, and other things.

Lots.. I study depression in some books i have. now I suffer from depression, caused by a lot of things. A big reason is loneliness, something I cant fix quickly.
-
Only what it feels like I suppose.

Not a lot, really. There's been a lot of coverage in the media of late indicating that depression is far wider reaching and more complicated than first thought. It turns out a lot of members of my family have it to a degree, possibly myself. As to the different kinds, symptoms, diagnoses and treatments, I can't really say.

Enough. I am a depressive, and was so for many years before it was officially diagnosed. I can now look back on my childhood and see many bad episodes that should have been dealt with. But in those days people were in denial. It has been much better since treatment. I take antidepressants, which take the edge off the depression, and I went to counselling, which helped identify a lot of the environmental causes. Counselling helped me deal with these issues and developing coping and even victory mechanisms. Don't worry about the meds. They are pretty good. If one lot doesn't work, there are plenty of alternatives. Hey, diabetics take medicine for a lack of a hormone named insulin, and everyone says that is good. Why, then, is it wrong to take another hormone called seratonin, if you lack it?

I know how it feels like.

It sucks.

Quite a bit. My mom takes medication for it. My sister is bipolar. Now, I'm learning to handle it myself. :) It takes a lot of will power!

Enough to know that the way out of it is to focus on others, especially Him.

That most of the medicines used to counteract depression are a "works for some" (almost experimental) kind of scenario.
