  • Yes. What's a few bucks in the face of great service?
  • I tip well when the service fulfills its need. I waited a long time... so I do tip. I never stiff. But, if the wait person forgets me, I talk to them. They don't make minimumwage,so I do compensate.
  • As long as the service is good than yes I believe in tipping well, giving a server an extra $5 can mean the difference between spit on your steak and drink refills every 15 minutes.
  • "God knows when you don't tip"
  • Yes. My family owned a restaurant at one time, my sister and wife have both been waitresses at different times. If I get good service I tip very well. I know how hard that work is, and for the most part the folks who do it, do it quite well.
  • Yes I do. If I can't afford to tip at least 20% I don't go there. My daughter was a waitress and she said not matter what the bill (.75) never leave less than a dollar tip.
  • Great service is a rare thing and should be rewarded with a great tip. GOod service should get a good tip and hopefully they will try to do better. Bad service may get some kind of tip but also a mention to the manager about what I thought of their wait staff.
  • i do if anything overtip-unless i get bad service they get tipped really well- i am a chef and know how hard they work for their money---cool question---smile and enjoy the day
  • I always tip but it is truly based on the service. Poor quality and outstanding service can mean a difference of 50 or 10 percent tips.
  • As a former pizza delivery driver, I know how much it sucks to get a bad tip. But on the other hand, I know how easy it is to be nice to customers generally. So, I usually tip well and give them leniency in case they're just having a bad day. Everyone is entitled to a bad day.
  • There is a hilarious scene in Reservoir Dogs about that. But, anyhow, yes. I believe in it and I tip well enough (in situations where I think a tip is deserved).
  • Indeed I do, I never tip less than 20%.
  • About 25%
  • I do. I tip 20% of the rounded-upward amount of the post-tax total. If the bill was $25.17 I'd tip $5.83 by credit card for a grand total of $31.00 If I paid that by cash I'd tip $6. I heard that Tom Hanks tips 100% of the whole bill. :D
  • Definatly...I was a waitress for a while and I know how dissapointing it can be not to get a good tip.
  • If the service, food and attitude is good, hell yeah! But if it's crappy, you'll be lucky if you can squeeze a plug nickel out of me!
  • Yes. I always tip atleast $5. I believe you got to give before you receive.
  • When I'm on vacation, I tend to tip very well (15%), but I don't tip quite as good at home (8-10%).
  • Yes, I do
  • I believe in tipping well when I am served well. In any case I never skip a tip.
  • i believe that what goes around comes around.
  • Yep ..I do and when served well I tip well .I never forget to appreciate things :-)
  • Yes I do. It is always good to be generous to others.
  • Of course. It's how your server makes a living.
  • Yes, they work hard and I think they should be rewarded.
  • I'm really bad at mental math. I can figure out ten percent really easily, and from there 20 percent isn't hard (easier than figuring 15), so i usually end up tipping the nearest dollar to 20%. I haven't worked a tipping job, but I've worked crappy jobs before and I know it's rarely if ever the server's fault for something happening, and there's usualyl something reasonable behind them not being 100% chipper.
  • Yes because I believe in kharma
  • I dont know if it's my belief but I do it anyway. ;)
  • No. We don't tip police officers for putting their lives on the line so I'm sure as hell not tipping someone for bringing me food which, by the way, IS THEIR JOB!! But I have been known to tip if the waitress is hot. So I guess I am sort of a hypocrite.
  • Yes :)
  • If the job was right yo...
  • If it's deserved....extra care deserves a bigger tip.
  • Yes I always tip 20% or above.
  • double the tax and add if the service was good, if the service was bad, leave a couple quarters in the bottom of your drink
  • Yes, if the service is good. Good wait people work hard for their money & deserve it.
  • I believe in tipping well providing the service has been good. Personally I believe 10% is enough for 1-4 people and 20% for a bigger group. I have in the past purposefully not left a tip because the service has been awful, but that is rare. Once I was reluctant to leave a tip because the waiter was over-enthusiastic, and when I say that I mean I actually had to tell him (politely) to go away because he was watching us eat. It can be possible to try too hard! The best service I had was in Sicily, and we always tipped well because it's quite an expensive place to live and most of the jobs don't pay overly well.
  • It depends upon WHERE (as in what country) you are! Some countries find tipping to be repugnant as they proudly consider that their employees are paid a "living wage." In such a case, if the service provided is an extended service, such as in a hotel stay; I would still tip upon concluding my stay and I would include a short note or card thanking them for their excellent service. For a waitress or waiter in such a country that frowns upon tipping, I would make a point of telling the manager what outstanding service I received after thanking the person providing the service. Assuredly, I would add that I look forward to sharing their quality and location with others I know, or encounter. In places where Tipping is the expected and hoped for conclusion, I am truly happy to tip, providing the quality of service and goods were at the least up to par. For exceptional service, I normally delight in providing and exceptionally high tip. If the service is exceptionally sub-standard, I usually do not tip at all.
  • Depends on where you are and how the service was. If I go to a restaurant and the server never shows her face again after our meal is delivered than I would either not leave her anything or a very small amount. If it's really busy and she is just all over the place I will give her a little at least, but I am a customer also and don't want to have to beg for service. If she is sitting there chomping her gum and gossiping with another person she doesn't get anything from me! ;)
  • Yes, I do. Wait staff aren't even paid minimum wage in the US. Their hourly wage is just enough (sometimes not enough) to cover their taxes. Their actual pay is their tips. If you don't tip, you haven't paid them for the work that they have done for you. If the service is REALLY crappy (I mean really crappy, too), I leave 10%. The amount goes up from there. Decent service is tipped at least 20%, and great service is higher.
  • yes if the service i recieved was good.
  • It all depends on a service. Even if the food is not so good but service is excellent I tip well. But if I get a service with attitude and rudeness I make sure to drop one cent to prove my point. Service has to be good regardless of any given situation. Professionalism is an act which deserves respect and fair gratitude.
  • Yes, and I tip very well if the service is excellent.
  • I believe in tripping well.
  • Absolutely! People who serve other people live mostly off of just tips....its only right to tip the standard 20% or more in my opinion.
  • I believe in tipping accordingly. It's is very rare that a server will not get a tip from me, but how much depends on how well I was treated as a customer. I used to word for tips so I know what it's like to be on that end. All I would ask is that someone serve me as well as I would have served them.
  • If I get good service I will tip. I live on my tips.
  • Absolutely. I know that wait staff often work for minimum wage or less as a base salary, and tips are their only real income. 20% is my usual, unless the service is bad. I've never left less than 10%, but if service were incredibly bad -- if they brought the wrong food or cold food, or God forbid, left hair on the plate, or especially if they were really rude and took forever -- I'd make a point to scatter a few pennies on the table as a statement.
  • Yes, I worked in the service industry for many years to support my daughter. I lived off my tips, needed them to feed her. I worked hard for my money, and still do.
  • ONLY when the person has provided me with above average service.
  • Most definelty.
  • I always tip based on the service I recieve. Example: When me and three friends went to Waffle House the other day and not only was the waitress rude, but got my drink wrong (which is suprisingly common, considering all I -ever- get is water with no lemon) AND never brought my bacon but instead put it aside because it had fallen on the floor, then forgot about it and when I asked brought me the plate of bacon that had fallen on the floor? She didn't get a tip. She's lucky they got paid at all. But on the other hand, there is a sushi restraunt in Houston called Shogun that me and my ex fiance used to go to every other week when we got our paychecks. We'd order two hibatchi meals, along with 2 or three rolls of sushi. The waitresses, manager, and greeters not only knew us immediately when we would walk in, but the waiters and waitresses already knew what drinks we wanted, and 95% of the time also already knew what we wanted to order, even though we didn't order the same thing every time. We were often given free drinks by the manager when they put new alcohol on the menu (even though I was under 21 at the time), and we also occasionally got our meals free. In addition, my ex-fiance wouldn't eat "raw sushi", so if she wanted something that only came raw, the sushi chef would make an exception for us and cook it anyway. We didn't always go in for hibatchi AND sushi. Sometimes we just went and got $20-$35 worth of sushi. 95% of the time the waitor/waitress would walk away with a $50+ tip, not including the money that we faithfully gave to the sushi chefs themselves. With me, you get what you earn.
  • It depends. How well is the person getting paid? Is it enough not need it? Is it someone who chases customers if they don't leave tip Is it logical for person who earns much more than a minimum wage earner, like a high end hotel etc., to expect to get tipped by a minimum wage earner?
  • I do tip - and as generously as I can - especially if I use a place frequently. If you're a good tipper, people will remember you and (most of the time) give you a more attentive/better service. I usually tip upto half the bill.
  • Yes, if the service warrants it definitely
  • i love to tip well.25-30% is the norm for me and if the service is above and beyond then 50% or more is justified.
  • My parents do all the tipping in our family, and they do tip everyone that waits on us, more if they give really great service.
  • I thought I did until I read some of the other answers. I can't imagine ever tipping 50% of the bill, as some people appear to do. It almost makes me want to work in one of the restaurants they eat at.
  • it depends on the service. i got two exmaples for you. i was at a very high end and expensive restaurant and the service was awful. i actually told the waiter at the end what bothered me and i told him i wouldn't leave him a tip. dont tell them during the service because they might spit in your food. after i told off the waiter i asked for the manager and you know what he said: so? i couldn't believe my ears i was at a chain restaurant, run of the mill place. three of my friends and i wanted to pass by to eat before heading to a club. i footed the bill. the service was amazing, i was truly pleased and amazed. the bill came for $75 and the tip i felt for the young lady was $75! she was confused at the moment because she thought i meant to leave her 7.50 but when i told her how wonderful she was and the tip was really for 75, a tear came down her face. i called the manager told him what i had done. he offered me a free meal but i declined because it wasn't what i intended to get out of it. these are two true extreme situations, so you make the call
  • Yes, and I always do it.
  • it depends on the service. ill often tip 30% at resturants, a lot of time at bars if they are good ill tip 50%. at the same time if the service really sucks, i wont tip at all. i feel im rather generous, and i will see you get what i feel you deserve.
  • I do.... unless the service really sucks I never go below 15% and generaly try doing 20-25% if I was richer I would be even more generous but I am in the same broke boat as waiters so I can not tip as much as I would like.
  • Unless I get bad service I generally tip a bit above the standard rate. Sometimes at random I get insane, if I am having a good day, or I see something in the waiter or waitress that earns my sympathy Ill leave kind of insane tips, more then once its been double or triple what I paid on the bill.
  • Yes but only if the service was excellent.
  • If the service is good, yeah. If the waitress is Hot, yeah too :) +5
  • If the service is great, a good tip is well deserved. If it is bad then no way.
  • for exceptional service, yes
