I call my mother in law by her name. I think because we were friends before I even went out with her son, I just never got used to calling her mom.

i'm actulally against calling in-laws mom and dad. i feel it's a slight against my real parents who put up with me for so many years. they didn't raise me and they're not my parents. the titles mom and dad should be reserved for just mom and dad. of course in-laws should have a respectful title and should be called something that shows there is more of a relationship than just a mr. or mrs.

first name, generally. It was weird to figure out what to call them, then I settled there. It was probably something we should have jointly discussed... <sigh>

I call them by their first name but sometimes I'll call my father in law Dad. My mother in law wasn't much of a mother to my husband and I just can't bring myself to call her Mom. My in law's are divorced and my husband much closer to his father.

I call them by their first names. In-laws are not your actual parents, but equals. When introducing them in public to another adult, I also call them by their first name. To my children, we call them the grands.
