Is Israel defending its country? Yes. * Is Israel taking this opportunity (defending against terrorist attacks from neighboring nations) to expand? Yes. Not as much as they COULD do (see: China, Russia), but they definitely are making small-ish steps of expansion. * Are they paying the price for a war of expansion? No...but it's not really a war of expansion, even though they are taking advantage of the situation - taking advantage of Israeli public opinion - to expand their territory in the West Bank.

I think they defend their nation from attacks from their enemies. Every time there is a war in Israel, it is started by one of their enemy terrorist groups 5/3/26
