  • you dont have to eat lots for comfort, and it does help to have different comforts, not just food!
  • I have done it for PMS but it does not really work. I only eat a little junk on holidays. Once your over Forty your metabolism can handle less junk. I maintain my fitness level and weight.
  • Using food as comfort doesn't help, just make you gain weight or feel even wrost. I get active, talk about it or put on paper. +6
  • I used too but I dont any more If Im feeling down Id rather go for a run with my Ipod blasting
  • i do but then i feel worse after so it not a good idea. i dont think you should avoid foods just have them in moderation. so instead of the whole chocolate bar just have a couple chunks.
  • As a low-carber who lost a lot of weight with this eating style, here is what I have, to treat myself when I need a lift: 3 or 4 dark chocolate (85%!) squares with some creamy peanut butter on top - altho' I have peanut butter regularly anyway (doesn't penalize because of the low carb content!). Another treat would be 1/2 a McDonald's oatmeal or chocolate chip cookie (an indulgence because of the starch) - also with creamy peanut butter spread on top. As for junk food - I used to eat it a lot, but now, the biggest indulgence is a McD's McDouble with lettuce wrap (always lettuce wrap, no more buns, ha ha).
  • Generally not. If I'm depressed I just don't eat. However, eating chocolate, especially dark chocolate, can help. It is the endorphins. Just as exercise can help for the same reason.
  • Yup but I eat all the time anyway so it makes no diff =)
  • (COMMENT for --CT-- - I got an error message again, when trying to post this as a comment) You're welcome! Well - I try and keep it under 50. But I'm in the maintenance phase (well - that's for forever!!). So if trying to lose weight - go for 30 net carbs max - net carbs is subtracting the no. of grams of FIBER from the no. of grams of carbs. Best foods for low carb and low sugar (no need to limit quantity, really) are: all animal proteins, fish and shellfish, most green veggies except green beans (and avoid starchy veggies like sweet potatoes), salad greens, tomatoes, onions, eggs, cheese, nuts (go for unsalted) and peanut butter, avocados, and all the berries. It's best to get rid of potatoes, bread, and most pasta unless it is very "aldente" (still firm). Beans are risky, too - very starchy. I will vouch for this style of eating as I lost over 25% of my body weight and have kept it off since February!! I eat out, too, and the restaurants are happy to substitute (tomato slices or salad, for potatoes, toast or tortillas, etc. etc.). Good luck.
  • It doesn't work. I've tried that, i've tried drink, i've tried chain smoking, i've even tried drugs. It always makes you feel worse than how you felt before. Better to deal with the issue at hand and not find something else to cover it up. These things can't just be pushed aside without causing more emotional discomfort :)
  • I eat sweets and it does help. Gives me some energy for awhile. I can't eat too much because it'll upset my gastric and digestive system.
  • I'd rather have a beer
  • There are some healthy "junk food" items believe it or not. Popcorn comes to mind (not heavily buttered of course but lightly salted). There are whole grain chips and crackers available with increased fiber and protein that won't hurt you, unless you eat the whole box of course. There are low-carb,low-fat protein/breakfast/energy bars that trick your mouth into thinking it's a candybar but it can actually deliver a lot of protein, vitamins, minerals and sometimes fiber. So selective junk food eating can be healthy! :) Happy Monday CT! :) ((hugs))
  • I don't eat when I'm upset, thankfully.
  • I dont eat if I am upset... i lose my appetite. I do drink a little more coffee though
  • That's about the only time I do eat junk food... Chocolate for a snack, and something like a fish pie for dinner. Which, although not strictly junk, isn't exactly healthy!! It doesn't help much, but it makes me feel a little better =)
  • No, I don't. Though I will have 5 - 10 chocolate chips from time to time, if I have a 'sweet tooth.' =0]
  • (This was another comment for --CT--, again - but once again, I got "error on page" - ??). You are SO right --CT--. It is very precarious. Yesterday I gained 3 lbs. altho' I know I can take it off again as some is water weight from a good dollop of salty grated cheese on a large portion of salad I had (I avoided the spaghetti and lasagna that was available, tho'!) - but, a main factor was that I drank a glass of sangria (too much sugar) and I almost never have that The place I was at, a community center at a church, didn't have Merlot or Cabernet, so I shouldn't have had any wine, but...I splurged. Then I had a late snack of peanut butter & jelly, and I don't usually have jelly but I was still in a splurging mode - bad me!. Luckily, it's easy to take off - today I had some eggs and some diced leftover pork roast, with salsa, and later I'll hmake a bunless burger with mustard and hot sauce - that should do it. But yes - it is tricky, at best, especially if you don't get the amount of cardio that is recommended along with the eating plan!! Thanks for your insightful comments. By the way - have you tried 85% dark chocolate? That REALLY helps and it is much more "guiltless" than the sweeter chocolates!...That reminds me, time to go buy a bar - Lindt Excellence, 85%, is my top choice!!
  • ice cream always makes you feel better
  • Unfortunately, I do way too much. Esp. sweets.
  • I only eat junk food when I'm hungry. :-)
  • beer me
  • Sometimes I eat chips because it's satisfying to have something to crunch on when I'm angry. But it doesn't happen often. I am more likely to eat when I'm bored.
  • Yeah, it helps sometimes.
  • No I have sex..........sorry it just the truth. But one does usually follow the seven F's ,......................................fight, flight, feed, freeze , flop, f..k. , there's one more I cant think right now, what that other basic instinct is?
