  • If you're talking about cheese fondue, I don't really know what you mean by oil. - If your question is: can you re-use the MELTED CHEESE: Yes you can - but you have to take it out of the caquelon and clean the caquelon first, or else the "Muetere" (the burnt cheese-crust at the bottom) will 1. become to "large" and 2. give the re-used cheese a burnt taste. In Switzerland, where cheese-fondue comes from, in most families it is tradition to use the left over cheese for "ChΓ€sschnitte": Cut dark bread, pour some white wine over it, cover it with the left over cheese - put in oven. - If your question is: can you use the leftover SUBSTANCE IN THE RECHAUD that keeps the fire going: Yes you can. Keep the rechaud at a place, where children can't get a hold of it and fill it up befor you use the rest. NEVER fill the rechaud while the flame is still going or while it's still hot!
  • I've saved the oil and have used it again. Of course I had a couple of occassions that I did use it when the dates were really close, so it wouldn't have had time to go bad. I don't see where there would be any harm in it. You can always use the same oil cooking in a regular fry pan too ;)
  • I don't know what model/make a fondue is but my car's owners manual says that it needs NEW oil at 10k. so i wouldn't not do it. but then again i use synthetic.
  • Oxidation! This is what kills not just "Oils" but Metals & other things! Synthetic Oil does not Oxidize & lasts a long time in Engines, but it has a "Funny Taste" & doesn't mix well with many Seasonings. Heating Oil Speeds the Oxidation process greatly. So, Don't overheat it, when saving, strain through "Cheese Cloth" & save in a "Non-Reactive Air Tight Container" at "Room Temperature" so the "Fat" won't separate. This will assure that Ur "Gas Mileage" won't drive everyone out of the room!!! LOL John
  • I re-use my oil from fondues. I find the easiest way to strain it is through a paper coffee filter - that catches all the 'bits' and leaves a clean oil. Remember to let the oil cool first. Having said that, if you have used seasoned meats in the fondue, that will flavour the oil. I heard somewhere once that if you fry parsley in the oil that will remove some of the flavourings.
