It's a pretty good sci fi series.

I would imagine because it doesn't require a spaceship to get from point A to point B, that the various places they visit are Earth-like, and the dynamic of the team works well together. Additionally, the original movie was so popular, that making it into a TV series only made it that much more popular.

I like the fact that they try to come up with plausible explanations for all the wormholes and lasers instead of just demanding "More Dilethium crystals!". Well in the early seasons at least.

I liked it in the 90's... Then it got overly complicated and well... dumb.

understated, unexpected humor, especially with Richard Dean Anderson Atlantis got that formula down even better, with SEVERAL characters providing rich, character-driven humorous moments

It tells a story that a lot of people subliminally believe is fairly close to the truth. We all know we can't really trust our gov't, and this shows us why.

Because it's a damn great show ;)
