Coffee shop for me. I love coffee
-
Definately a book shop, I think I would enjoy my customers much more than if owned a coffee shop.
-
Can it be both? lol Probably the book shop. Mostly because I love books, and coffee shops (and food service places in general) have all sorts of health codes, food service laws, inspections, and other things that I'd rather not deal with. Book stores don't have to deal with any of that. Much easier :)
-
Book shop! I could be like Dylan Moran on Black Books. Great Idea!
-
Book Shop, I could always read a book, but you can only drink so much coffee!
-
Book shop. More intellectuals and less freaky goth kids.
-
Definitely a coffee shop. I'd rent wall space to local photographers/artists also. It's been my dream for a while. Roast my own beans and have local musicians perform there certain nights of the week. I Like the question!
-
Book shop. I love books.

Book Shop. If I ever changed businesses it would be to something Without a food handlers permit.

Coffee shop, because you don't have to be too educated to run it. So I am not.... sorry.
-
We have three book stores in our area that have coffee shops in them: so that is the type of book store I would like to have.
-
I'm sure a coffee shop would make more money, but I would definitely have a book section in the back for those people who wanted to read, and buy books.
-
Book store hands down, I love to read.
-
Book store - more mellow. But a book/coffee shop...wait, that's already been done.
-

-

-
A coffee shop. I've never been much the bookish type.
-
coffee shop, people come to you every day to get coffee to help them wake up. a book shop people come to you every now and then. so going off of to make more money, coffee all the way. ~pooke
-
Bookshop. I love books and hate coffee. And the smell of coffee makes me sick.
-
Assuming business is good, a coffee shop might be more stressful having to crank out the orders to a line of customers. Then again, you don't have to worry about suggesting appropriate books ("What book should I buy for my husband? Who would you reccomend that writes like ____?"). With a coffee shop, there is less of a chance of being shoplifted from (yet a higher robbery risk), but you also have to contend with groups of cackling teenagers who are just hanging out.
-
A coffee shop within a book shop. I would really rather own the coffee shop. There was an article in the local newspaper that said small book shops are suffering now.
-
Coffee shop
-
If I'm doing it to make money, then the coffee shop. If I'm doing it for pleasure, then the book shop. :)

-
I'd love to have a coffee shope that had books for sale, and trade!!!
-
Book shop. I'd save money and cut down on trips to the library.
-
Coffee shop. I ran a coffee mess when i was in the Navy. It was like a small store for snacks. We had Frito Lay chips(all types)sold for 10 cents. We had Hostess cakes and pies which sold for 15 cents. We also sold sandwiches. We had soft drinks in cans for 15 cents. Coffee was 5 cents for a 8 oz.cup. We grossed $11,000 on our best month even with the low prices.
-
Why not have both, a coffee and book shop. There is one by my work, I love it.
-
Books. The world can go on without coffee but if we didn't have books we would be back in the dark ages. Look how bad things are and we do have the books.
-
I'd own a coffee shop...because there would be no chance of me drinking up the profits (I don't like coffee). If I owned a book shop, I'd spend all of my time 'consuming' the inventory....;-D...
-
BOOK SHOP!
-
coffee shop

A book shop, that would be wonderful.

Coffee Shop, because food and drinks are a necessity.
-
Both, it is easy to combine them: a nice cozy bookshop that serves the best coffee in town. You buy your coffee, there goes the discount in your book purchase.
-
Coffee shop...I love the smell of brewing coffee.
-
A coffee shop with a ton of books in it. There was one of those in the town I used to live in, and it was a really great place to spend a Sunday morning. They had great coffee and the entire place was wall-to-wall bookshelves.
-
Coffee shops because until there is a stomach there is always an income money to keep the coffee shop running.

A book shop

A book shop :)
-
a book shop with a little coffee shop inside. that would be so fun :)
-
....
-
Book shop, but can I have a little coffee shop in it? It's like Barnes a Noble and Books a Million. At least the ones here anyway. Lol
-
Well I love both, but I CAN live without coffee whereas if I had to choose something to take on a desert island, it would be books and more books. I have bookshelves all through the house crammed full of everything from graphic comic novels to gardening and cooking books. I wouldn't make any money from a bookshop - I'd spend too much time talking to people - but I'd be an extremely content bankrupt.
-
Neither, the profit margin isn't high enough. If I were forced to choose, I'd say coffee but I still don't think it is great business idea...
-
They've become one and the same yo...
-
Coffee shop. More profit in coffee, than books. If i get bored, i can at least have a cup of coffee. Not so, in a book store. you might chew on a few pages of Gone With The Wind, but thats it. Coffee stimulates conversations with people. Books remind me of a quiet library...shhhhhhh!
-
I'd rather own book shop that serves coffee
-
The best bet would be to have a combination of the two. You're more likely to increase sales of both. If someone comes in for a book, they may grab a cup of coffee, and sit for a bit. Borders and Barnes and Nobles for example, they've done it right.
-
Coffee shop means a few employees, which is a lot of paperwork, training, employee theft, scheduling, no shows, etc. But a book shop is not a major income maker. I had a store next to a book store, and she closed because people expected her to carry 80,000 titles, and if they didn't find it, they would tell her that they would get it from amazon.com.
-
BOOK SHOP tottaly!!
-
A BOOK SHOP THAT SERVES COFFEE FOR A SMALL PRICE AND YOU COULD MAKE IT A CLUB. HAVE A NICE DAY. MIKE
-
Bookshop definatley, i love books and am a constant reader ..:O)
-
The book shop is way more profitable, and then leave a little section to sell coffee. It would be double profit. :}
-
I reckon i'd rather have a book shop. Your selling something more importnat, (unless you reeeeeeally dig coffee!). Also you could maybe seel coffee in your coffee shop too.
-
definitely non-chain coffee shop, they are more unique and less expensive usually!!!
-
It would be grande to put them both together but since you are asking us to choose between the two, I would say coffee shop. People can always bring with them what they want to read and you could always supply them with the daily papers and recent magazines.
-
Coffee shop, it makes more money probably.
-
Because I love to read, I would rather own a book shop.
-
Book shop! I could read dozens of books for free and make a profit on them.

-

-
Definitely a coffee shop. I like lots of conversation, and you really can't have conversation in a bookstore. It's too much like a library.
-
a coffee shop. Unless I can own a coffee shop with books for sale; I think that'd be a great idea...

-
Book shop. I can't stand the smell of coffee.
-
I'd prefer both so people could get coffee and browse and sit down and read and be comfortable.
-
I would rather own a coffee shop. I was going through the procedures of buying a coffee shop business when it all went wrong:( I love preparing sandwiches and offering a good service to the public. My chances of owning a coffee shop at present is nil. I hope to own one in the near future:)
-
How about both connected?..Then could have the best of both worlds.
-
