Do I send a thank you card for people who mailed me sympathy cards for the death of my grandparent?

I don't think you need to. At least, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be expected. People who have sent you a card have done so because they care, not because they expect to be thanked. If you really wanted to, I'm sure a phone call would be appreciated, but I don't think anyone would expect you to worry about that during such a terrible time.

It is not necessary to send a thank you for a sympathy card, but you should write thank you notes for people who sent flowers or food or did something special for you. The next time you see someone who sent you a card, just say how much you appreciated it.
