  • You're going to need more than that. Sound proof walls to ensure good sound quality as well as a good mic. You may as well get into a studio or create one in your own home.
  • You can use your computer to record yourself. When I was in my band I bought all the equipment to record us and it came out fairly well.
  • If it's just a demo, then you really don't need to invest that much. Labels don't really listen to the sound quality as much as the song itself on a demo, since they realize that the majority of independent artists don't have easy access to studios. If you buy a multi-track recorder, a decent mic, and some recording software for your comp such as Audio Edition (Cool Edit), then you can record and even mix without having to spend a crazy amount of money. You'll need a pop filter to block the breathing in the mic, but that setup should be good enough, for a demo at least. Like I said, don't worry too much about sound quality for a demo, and focus more on song quality. But if you are trying to up the sound quality, then you need to spend more money on equipment such as compressors, filters, and even an engineer to mix it properly.
