Ranger Rick and Highlights when I was an emerging reader. By about third grade, I was reading anything you put in front of me. Common magazines in our household were Psychology Today, Time, Discover, Early American Life, Reader's Digest, Redbook, National Geographic, Smithsonian, Life and Good Old Days. I read them all, cover to cover, every month. I was an obsessive reader, and would even read the paper upside down while someone across the table was reading it. I used to drive my mother crazy making her wait to turn the page so I could finish the last line, because I could almost, but not quite, read as fast upside down as she could read right side up.

My own favorites were pretty arcane. National Geographic, Popular Science and Popular Mechanics were on the intellectual diet. Life Magazine, Mad and Cracked were the fun stuff. EDIT: Almost forgot Reader's Digest.

I cannot remember a single magazine I read regularly as a child. I glanced from time to time at the Reader's Digest to which my parents subscribed but I didn't think much of it. I did read an occasional comic book but I never bought any...I think they belonged to my cousin. I was a book person from as far back as I can remember and if I had time to read anything it would be a book! :)
-
Sports Illustrated and an occasional Playboy if one of the older guys got their hands on one.

Boys' Own. Lots of nice things for boys to enjoy. Readily available in multiple copies in the school Library. Look and Learn. Great fun magazine, which my dad used to pick up regularly at the pavement second hand dealers. Illustrated London News. Dad used to pick it up from the second hand pavement sellers. For some silly reason, I was smitten with Princess Anne, when I was around 12, and was forever skimming the magazine up and down to find her picture. Hope sh'e not on Answerbag. Eve's Weekly. My mother subscribed to it. I loved it for the bra and panties advertisements. I don't think I can be more honest than this. :-)
