Yes just like the term "drink like a sailor" but the Navy says these images aren't acceptable anymore ( I don't know why they were in the 1st place). I have cut down on my swearing, especially since i'm a dad now. I also dont drink as much either lol.

Probably from someone who met with sailors who were on a very long voyage with no women around to superintend their language. That would allow them to use whatever words they would like and get into the habit of using language a lady would not like. So the would "curse like a sailor". My guess.
