  • It really depends on the type of bullet, the shooter, weapon, experience. The .40 weapon is usually going to be a larger size so the who of who is shooting it means a lot in terms of experience, hand size and other issues. All things equal the .40 is going to do more damage in terms of penetration(vest) and wounds depending on the ammo. I'd rather have a .40. I don't like the 9mm. I always tell this story of something that happened in a place I was. I actually just missed a mafia hit on a 450 pound guy. He took 18 9mm rounds and none penetrated his fat. It's a true story, it was in Staten Island, new York around the mid 1980's. It was a corner gas station I think, on Bay street. I'll take the .40, .45 or 10mm over a 9mm or better a .38 +P or .357 revolver.
