I prefer the book, the movie was o.k., but the book let's me use my imagination, and it can get real crazy in there.

I actually liked Howard Koch's radio adaptation that Orson Welles and Mercury Theater on the Air performed famously on the radio over both of the versions about which you ask. I agree with you that something doesn't quite work for me with the novel -- though it was originally serialized in a magazine, I believe. As far as film, I prefer the 1950's original over the 2005 film version -- though the 2005 version was OK, especially the beginning scenes. The ending was ridiculously melodramatic, though, for me. +5
