Usually i find if they start conversations about what type of ring you want or about the future and so forth it is a good indication. For me I knew because he kept telling me that he wanted to marry me, it was just a matter of time before he did it, so every special thing we did I began to expect it and would get disappointed when it didn't, then when I had finally given up on it happening he suprised me and did it. So it is hard to tell when, but you can get a feeling that it will.
