  • We don't allow people to actually delete profiles, but if you jusp "Anonymous" and turn off the notifications, the account cannot be identified as yours, so it's as good as deleting it!
  • well if you want to quit answerbag, just don't use the account anymore.
  • Why in the world would you want to? You would miss out on all the fun!
  • Go to "my computer, No Mine not yours" Pull the plug, Hold above head, Swiftly hurll twords concrete floor, (CRASH) and then sweep up the pieces (as the song says "theres no way out of here, when you come in your in for good" !!) LOL ( kidding... I have no clue ask jeeves! lol
  • I don't believe you can, but you can turn off your email notifications and just not log in anymore.
  • Madam, you don't, and if you are thinking for ONE SECOND on bailing on me, you have another thing coming missus!
  • Once AB has you, it never lets go - don't fight it.
  • Delete an account? Why is that neccisarry? Abandonment does the same job.
  • Well, you could ask the mods to do it for you. Try using the Feedback link at the bottom of the website or try emailing an ABstaff member directly about it. The easiest thing would be to stop using answerbag and remove all email notifications.
  • im not sure you can but what does it matter? you don't have to go on it again and why do you want to leave us at the bag?
  • As far as I am aware there is no facility to do that atm... but you can have your account deleted by asking Joel at the feedback page. (See the bottom of this page for a link.)
  • You obviously didn't read the agreement. They're never going to let you leave. We're all lifers.
  • This question: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/112729 Has been asked here: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/90952
  • Why...cancel. Just don't come back.
  • YOU signed on for life! But you may find something in the fine print of the FAQ's at the bottom of the page. If you are thinking of dropping, some people just change their name or go to anonymous to comment more freely.
  • Just log out and dont come back I guess.
  • Geeze! i wish i could!!!!!!
  • you mean end it, i think you have to email Joel, but why, just don't use the site anymore
  • Just dont ever use it..lol
  • Hehe, either stop using it, or go around posting really really offensive questions, answers, comments etc until you're banned :P (Don't do that, lol)
  • You don't. If you want to leave, you just leave and let your account stagnate and go unused for however long you're gone.
  • You really can't. Either do nothing, and it will just go into hibernation, or change your emails (if you are getting notifications) to made up addresses, so you won't be bothered by them any longer. You won't be bothered by Ab again.
  • Take out your email contact so you cannot recieve any notices, replace the Avatar with a blank, remove or replace your username with X'es or similar, and then my friend, you are history. Can I ask why you want out? Thanks
  • Personally, I don't see a reason to delete your account as we are all friendly people here with alot of good advise! But it looks as though this is your first question so if you don't want the account, take out all of your personal info by editing and log out. This isn't "deleting" but it is your personal choice to return to answebag just like the rest of us faithful answerbaggers.
  • You don't. Just turn off email notifications under your "Profile & Activity". By the way, please check for duplicate questions, this has been asked many times before. Eg: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/5169 http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/129928 I can't imagine why you would like to close your account so soon, you have only just created it.
  • What nevetS said .... Adiós Amigo have a safe trip
  • You don't. However you could ask Joel to do it for you: admin@answerbag.com Please can you check for duplicate questions, this was asked about 10 mins ago and dozens of times before that. Also see: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/55965
  • why. it isn't like you HAVE to go on it this agin, and leave your mark, besides, i dont think you can, youd have to email joel or something
  • You don't have the power ... you just fade away quietly ... SEEYA !
  • i want to delete mine and start over, how do i do that?
  • You can't delete your account. Just make another account by signing up (with a different email address) and just don't use your current one again.
  • May I ask why?
  • Ask Joel to delete your account for you or simply start anew and leave your old account to gather dust. Don't try to give yourself extra points from your other accounts though, that is against the rules. Cheers, Bam
  • You can't, however you can do the following. [You don't need to do 2 and 3.] 1) Stop email notifications. 2) Delete your nickname and become Anonymous. 3) Delete your Avatar. 4) Ask Joel to delete your account. 5) You can delete your answers by editing them and replacing them with a "." if you really feel that is necessary. 6) Change the email address you registered the account with to a random email account at mailiantor.com Sign up for a new account.
  • You don't. You just leave.
  • Keep quiet and don't type anymore and you will disappear.
  • If you make this guy Joel Downes really angry, he can probably zap all your answers like he has done with a Saturday night pest named Chubb Daddy. Other than that, it is probably out there for a good long while.
  • I was on one time in 2005 and didn't go on again until about 3 weeks ago and my account was still there. I don't know if you can delete an account but just not using it won't do it.
  • No, you can't. But the Answerbag staff can, if you flood, spam, write offensive answers, and act stupidly.
  • You can't delete your profile. You can: - Change your nickname to 'Anonymous' - change your avatar back to the blue generic one - Stop AB sending you any correspondence via email - Never log in again Then it'll be like you were never here, almost.
  • I would not recommend that you do so... you'll probably find you regret the decision. There are some legal implications to any effort to remove your entries. You agreed when signing up for AB that any content you submitted was the property of AB, and grant them license to reproduce, publicly display that information, edit, change or delete it at their discretion. If you try to delete your entries or edit them to be nonsensical, they have the ability and legal authority to restore your submissions to a previous state stored on their back up systems. Similarly, with the user account, the information is stored on their servers, not locally on your computer. You can not delete that information from their servers. You may be able to change your account profile, perhaps change the password to a random unknown one, effectively cutting you off from accessing your account. This would keep you off AB, unless you requested an email sent to your address with a reminder. Anyways, even if you go through all the work of editing your 160+ answers, you can't edit your questions, you can't edit peoples ratings left for you, or their comments, or your comments. Much of your content will be left, and anything you are able to destroy can be restored quite easily. Your stuck here! Rather, your content is. My advice is to just stop using it for a while if you are unhappy, but don't take any action to damage AB. It is ineffective, and the only lasting effect is that if you want to return in the future you may limited access. I did remove over 700 answers and definitions, and something even worse than the frustration of being unable to delete them... they were deleted, they didn't restore them from archives, and they can never be recovered. Very sad, learn from my mistakes, don't do it.
  • They may delete your account, but the questions are the property of AB once they are asked.
  • You can't actually delete your account. The most you can do is stop signing in and actively participating, allowing your account to become inactive.
  • Looks like this is like checking into Hotel California. "AB is programmed to receive. You can checkout any time you like, But you can never leave!".....
  • Not meaning to offend, but this sort of thing always baffles me. It is a free service and they do not track you down or send you a bill. Just stop participating. There is no need to cancel a membership. It is merely access. By asking the question, you will be notified by e-mail of posted answers. By not posting anything, you will eventually stop getting notifications. We will miss you though.
  • turn off your computer and walk away. better still, put all your money in a paper sack, leave it under the park bench and you are free and clear from AB.
  • Just walk away and forget about the site. You do not pay a subscrption so have no problem leaving whenever you wish.
  • just dont log onto AB anymore. then you are free from AB. i cant think why you would want to leave though
  • LET ME THE FUKKIN HELL OUT OF HERE YA MONGRELS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WANNA BE FREE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WANNA GO BACK TO SANITY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ONLY WANTED TO "TRY" AB !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AB IS MORE ADDICTIVE THAN CRACK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARRGGGHHHHH!!,,,THE PAIN,THE PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH look, there's a link on pain, maybe that will help. NO,NO,NO,there's hundreds of pain questions.......it's hopeless...goodbye world, "I shoodenov left,it's reely cold'n'spooky down here !"
  • Just stop posting. You can't remove your questions/answers. They are there forever.
  • Just walk into the sunset... (Sorry it didn't take).
  • You cannot delete your profile. Just don't log on.
  • You can delete what's in your profile by clicking on Edit My Profile/Avatar and deleting any info that you have on there. You can also edit your answers and some of your questions by putting dots in their place. But, you can't delete the profile completely. I hope you haven't had a bad experience that has led you to decide to do something so drastic.
  • You can't delete it but you can change your username and make the bluebag as your avatar so that no one recognises you.
  • To AB? You can't... just go inactive is all. =)
  • I don't think you can. Try looking in past question/answer section. Here are some links: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/90952 http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/55965 http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/303885
  • I'm not sure.....but why would you want to? At the very least, you should keep it as you may want to return one day and be able to retrieve the same archive questions and comments at that later date as opposed to starting fresh. My history has been sporadic in the last year when I was working around the clock, now I have more time and I am glad that I kept it intact. Don't be rash. :-)
  • You really cannot abosolutly delete an AB account to where it's completely gone. If an AB account was to be removed, you could still access the account if you have the URL link to your account. You can still be able to see the questions that you asked before, but all answers, comments, and questions along with the account will be deleted from the database. If someone was to consider removing their account, they can contact and inform the staff about it, and they can help you with it.
  • abjoel@answerbag.com
  • I think it's pretty ridiculous that you can't delete your account. If you sign up, you're stuck with answering foolish questions on the internet for the rest of your life? Wow, what a wonderful system...not.
  • If a user really wants to delete his or her account yes it's possible.
  • Yes, ther is an module called mod-unregister. I can't find it right now, but when I found it, I let you know
  • http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/90952
  • Your AB membership? No, you can't.
  • Could you not just get rid of your e-mail notifications and then not come here aymore?
  • Why would you want to?! Actually, I have no idea. I'd be interested in knowing the answer, too.
  • Sorry but your stuck. But you can just not come around.
  • Now why would you do a thing like that? Didn't you read the contract? Once you sign that's it!There is no turning back!
  • Now why would you do a thing like that? Didn't you read the contract? Once you sign that's it!There is no turning back!
  • Which membership? The category you've put this in doesn't give much of a hint. If you mean your Answerbag membership you can't. You could painstakingly go through all the answers you've given and delete them, but your questions and comments might just as well be carved in stone.
  • I think it's hilarious that people are giving points to someone who wants to leave :-) +2 hehe
  • You can't. Just stop using the site.
  • Its your first day, give us a chance :-) But if you really want to go no need to do anything, just slip away. Have fun :-)
  • Just walk away and don't look back.....but this is a great place to be!
  • Now why would you do such a thing?!
  • You could ask the Staff to do it. But, Sheep, why??
  • Why? :(
  • you can not delete you ab account it is here forever
  • You can not delete your account on answerbag. Go into your profile, under” Edit my profile/avatar “ Change your avatar back to the generic “bag” figure. Change your name back to “Anonymous” in the Nickname” field. You may leave a good bye message (or not) in the “About Me” field. Hit “Submit” and log off.
  • You can't delete your account. Just rename yourself Anonymous, change your avatar to a blue bag, and don't come back.
  • I may be wrong but I don't think there's anything you can do about it. If you don't want people to know who you are and leave, you can change yourself to "anonymous", change your picture to a generic picture and leave...
  • Are we that bad? Just don't come back anymore and turn off all the alerts under your profile. Sorry to hear that you will be leaving us.
  • What a bunch of jerk-offs No offense intended
  • Gasp! Why would someone want to do that?!
  • You cannot delete your account as if you could then your questions, answers, comments should also have to be deleted. But they can't as they are helpful to other people like you. What you can do is this: Remove your avatar, set your account to anonymous, throw your password out of your mind, forget about the account.
  • You want to leave us??
  • Easiest way is to post it on Bugmenot.com. AB will close it quickly.
  • You can't close it. You just leave and it stays dormant in case you want to return.
  • You can't. What you can do is change your username to Anonymous, and don't come back.
  • The only thing you can do is go back to all your answers, and delete them.Something has to be left in the answer box,so you need to type the word, "delete"
  • The obvious - stop logging on. Walk off into the cyber-sunset and don't look back.
  • You can just leave and never come back, or you can ask the staff to delete your account.
  • Go to your profile and under preferences de-select the email notifications, and then just stop signing in. Sorry to see you go!
  • email admin@answerbag.com and tell them to delete your account................but dont bash the site dude, just keep your opinion personal and cancel your account, no need to be mean.....we havent been mean to you
  • You can't, if you don't like it, then just clear everything in your profile, like the about me stuff and just leave. Not like anyone is going to figure out who you really are. Too bad you didn't like it here, though I'd give it at least a month before judging.
  • You have been here for just 1 day and your ready to give up? I don't think you gave us much of a chance to welcome you and to get to know you. BUT if you don't like it just delete your info on profile page and it's a done deal.
  • No you can't Just stop logging in and forget about it.
  • Nope you can change your name to anonomous, and not come back, but the questions and answers you have given are here to stay.
  • Change your profile name to anonymous and dont ever come back....that ought to do it.
