  • Speaking in general, my father has a dealers license in the state of Ohio. This may vary from state to state on the requirements, but if you sell more than a certain amount of cars per year, you are required to obtain a dealer license. You may buy as many as you want in Ohio. Second, you must have an insurance policy for dealers which covers liabilty for many cars. I am not sure on rates, but it covers any car you own and the tags can be swapped (dealer tags). In Ohio, at least, your place of business must have a certain amount of area (parking) for these cars. They assume dealers are selling cars and this is just a way to weed out small timers from getting a license for selling cars in the virtual world. Our state requires you have real property to have cars to get a dealer license and it must be at least gravel based or better.
