I enjoyed the original better, so Gene Wilder.
-
Johnny Depp.
-
Well my personal preference is for Gene Wilder. To my mind there can be no better Willy Wonka, but Johnny Depps Willy Wonka was closer to the book.
-
I've seen them both a few times. I don't think there is a way to really compare them. True, they were the same basic storyline, but both were made in such different ways they cannot be compared side by side. It is like comparing apples to oranges. Yes they are both fruits, but they have different basic tastes. I though both were perfectly cast for the version of the character they played.
-
Without question Gene Wilder. As much as I do like Johnny Depp as well, the first wonka film was much better and WIlder was a better Wonka.
-
I liked the way Johnny Depp played him,i watch the movie all the time:D
-
Gene Wilder. He played the craziness to a "T" :)
-
I thought Johnny Depp did a very good job as Willy Wonka.
-
Oh I hate to say it, I love Johnny...but that whole part was just really odd in the new version! Gene Wilder takes the cake on this one.
-
I love them both the same.
-
I love Johnny Depp, he's a great actor..but in this, I liked Gene Wilder just a wee bit better.
-
the original was way better
-
Definetly Gene Wilder. The original version is the only version worth watching.
-
WINNER: Gene Wilder. WHY? Due to Tim Burton's over-the-top direction, Johnny Depp's version was way too comic book-like, and campy often sounding like Johnny Depp doing an impression of Dr. Evil from Austin Powers. Therefore the performance often seemed forced. I couldn't suspend my disbelief. Gene Wilder's bipolar portrayal of Willy Wonka is like an abusive parental figure who can be kind and caring one minute, and heartless the next. He did it so well. Although Burton's version has modern CGI, FX, and production value on its side, I think the original version has a much more likeable cast and enduring value.
-
I adore Gene Wilder. http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/828872
-
Actually Gene Wilder played Willy, and Johnny Depp played Charlie. He was awarded the factory at the end of Willy Wonka.
-
One for the Wilder.
-
Hands down, no contest... Gene Wilder!
-
I can't really say one is better than the other... they each took the character in totally different directions. I prefer Gene Wilder's take on Willy Wonka as matter of opinion - I grew up loving that movie.
-
Gene Wilder but Johnny Depp is better to look at.
-
Johnny Depp all the way!
-
I prefer the entire movie, cast and all, in its original form. Johnny Depp did do a bad script justice because he is just the sh*it no matter what he does... But I didn't like it really. Gene Wilder was a comedic genius!
-
No one can ever replace Gene Wilder. Depp was entertaining, but he never felt like Willy Wonka.
-
i think gene wilder was better, but they are both VERY creepy in that film. ive never been able to watch it without being afraid. this is coming from the girl who had to skip the vulture part in jungle book, and was too scared to watch beauty and the beast though!
-
Johnny Depp does a good job, no matter what he does, but Gene Wilder will forever be Willy Wonka!!
-
Gene Wilder. I always had a "thing" for that guy. Am I the only one who thinks he was really sexy in his day? Not that Johnny Depp isn't, but there's just something about Wilder... lol
-
As much as I totally love Johnny Depp with all my heart, this one goes to Wilder. Johnny was total horrible in this, and they should have picked Marilyn Manson for the role instead, as originally planned, he's a lot weirder and creepier for the sort of role that Wonka requires. As far as this is concerned, Wilder IS Willy Wonka.
-
Definitely Gene Wilder. Johny Depp's version reminded me of Michael Jackson and sort of creeped me out.
-
Gene Wilder..i love Johnny Depp but i hated him in that movie..he acted so retarded
-
Most diffently Johnny Depp.
-
Gene Wilder hands down !!
-
wilder. not the best role for depp
-
gene wilder hands down, no effense to johnny depp hes great but that new one sucked so bad
-
Gene Wilder
-
Gene Wilder, one and only.
-
Gene Wider. I didn't like the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Johnny Depp was best as Capt. Jack Sparrow
-
Both were creepy. That being said... Johnny Depp makes Wonka seem even more... I dont know what word to say. I like Gene Wilder better I guess.
-
Wilder
-
Gene Wilder. I understood Willy Wonka to be a fantasy like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The Johnny Dep version is too dark and deals with Wonkas personal history. My opinion the latter version is another remake that fell short of the original.
-
GENE WILDER ... DuH! He is too hot and he can sing... here's my favorite song :
-
Oh god, is there even a contest? Gene Wilder was so much better that words just aren't enough. Johnny Depp played the part of a creepy child molester, not Willy Wonka.
-
hands down, Gene Wilder!!
-
Although I love both versions of the movie, I prefer Johnny Depp. Gene Wilder was gross and creepy while Johnny was hilarious and child-like.
-
Gene Wilder.
-
Johnny Depp was in the movie based almost true to the book, and did a wonderful job if you have read the book. Gene Wilder was in more of a child friendly version sorta based of the book some stuff added some removed! He also did a wonderful job. . My personal preference is the one Gene Wilder was in! I found it more amusing and don't have to try and explain anything to the kids when we are watching it. :)
-
Johnny Depp's performance was most accurate, but Gene Wilder's was simply magical.
-
A lot of being are going to say Depp because they are more familiar with him in recent years. Having seen both, Wilder's performance was far superior.
-
i love johnny depp. adore him. if he were ugly i'd still be in love with his acting. but gene has my heart for willy wonka
-
Gene Wilder by a long shot. Johny Depp's version was too creepy...reminded me of Michael Jackson
-
i actually like the johnny depp charater and movie alot. but gene is willy wonka. and no one will ever come close
-
I love love love Johnny Depp but I have to go with Wilders!!! +5
-
Wilder's version...I wasn't a fan of the remake....
-
Wilders is the best. +5
-
Wilder
-
Wilder's version. I tend to like originals rather than remakes. The first one is usually the better :)
-
Both were fantastic in different ways, but I have to say I love the Wilder version a bit more!
-
While the Depp version was true to the originl book, the Wilder version was about the best movie ever. Almost perfect, but they could have done without the 'Cheer Up, Charlie' song by his mom. Without the Slugworth character, it was almost pointless.
-
wilder by far.
