  • It depends whether you want to open a small local business or a large global one. The process is obviously more complex if it's international. In that case, your best bet is to pay a legal firm to check for you - they'll require a list of the countries in which you intend to do business. If it's just a local business, you might be able to get away with checking for yourself. There's no one easy way, but if you do all the following you should be ok. Check the local and national phone directories. Call the phone company in case of any new listings. Search for the name in Google and other major search engines. Check the likely domain name e.g. www.businessname.com and see if it's registered. As a general rule, if the business name exists but it's in a totally different industry, you might still be ok. Good luck!
  • maybe by googling the name and see what comes up
