  • Cant tell you why its called a star, it might have something to do with the latin equivalent due to historical astrologists. But it gives a yellow colour because of the material stars are made from. Most stars give off light due to a process called nuclear fission. Stars are mainly hydrogen or helium based, and when these burn they give off a yellow colour. This can be explained using the quantum theory, which is basicly that every electron in an atom can absorb certain energy. They then can realese this energy back with the same vale. The value of this energy realesed has the wavelength equivalent of yellow.
