That is correct. According to the denomination women should wear (long) skirts and also have long hair. Requirements for men are to have short hair and no beard. Having a television in the house is also frowned upon.
-
Skirts only, with coverage to the elbow, the knee, and the collarbone. I guess this lets out going swimming... No makeup, and no jewelry, not even a wedding ring. Female hair is never to be cut, not even trimmed. Some even say that once a woman is grown, she should wear her hair up at all times, down only in front of her husband. I abandoned the teaching when I realized it's EASY to go skirts only when you live in TEXAS. In the state of Washington, it's a different story. I broke down and bought my first pair of pants in years, when my long skirt couldn't keep my legs from freezing painfully like a couple of icicles. I don't think God minds me keeping my legs warm.
-
no, they do not HAVE to wear skirts. It is a personal conviction. They are not judged unrighteous if they wear pants.
-
according to the world of god yes we are suppossed to wear skirts..because we are not suppssed to wear clothing or anything that pertains to a man. i am pentecostal and it is not a matter of we have to do this we choose to do this because we are told to in the word of god and we have that level of comentment
-
being pentecostal myself, No, Apostolic pentecostal women do not HAVE to wear skirts. We choose to wear them because we want to be obedient to the Word of God. It is our conviction not to wear pants. And we do not force our beliefs on anyone.

Please disregard. This was a comment accidentally posted as an answer.

NO, They are not made to wear skirts, it is there own personal conviction. The only time you will ever hear anyone ask them to wear skirts is when they are doing something as a leader to the church such as Singing, Sunday School Teaching, Youth Working, etc.
-
I'm not sure about the Pentecostal faith but I know that in my religion (the worshipping of Satan) there is a required dress code: latex, leather, nipple clamps and cotton. You may want to consult this book: "Dressing for the Pentescostal Faith: What you Need to know about dressing for the SPIRIT". Hope this helps!

I am a sixteen year old pentecostal girl, and since i came to a pentecostal church, i heard of all of these "standards" that i should, or could live by. I was never demanded to wear a skirt or never to wear makeup, and they never told me i would go to hell for cutting my hair. As a pentecostal, i felt personally convicted to wear skirts the very night i recieved the Holy Ghost. But as i grew older, i realized that some girls my age were just following those 'standards' but they werent living holy lives. they, for some reason, decided that as long as they followed the standards, they could do whatever they want and get into heaven. I cut my hair last month, and i did feel bad about it, but i realized i am still living a holy life. Im not going to hell because i decided to cut the dead ends of my hair, my hair is still long and i still feel holy. So as long as you feel holy and you are following gods word, just keep up the good work and Be proud of being a holy christian.
-
Of course not. women and men in the religion don't HAVE to do all that. It is recommended to do so but you don't have to. I do because i think pants are pointless ,just an opinion. My family doesn't do it, i am the youngest and my mom doesn't even go to church and I live with my mom. Its all on how you believe God would want you to appear before others who are not with Christ.
-
It is not a rule at all for women to wear skirts. People only do so if they feel it in their heart to from God.
-
1 Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." this sums it up for me... not what clothes i am wearing.. legalism divided,, If one in convicted by God to wear skirts fine but don't make it a means of salvation...
-
You can wear the longest skirt in the world and still not be pentecostal, let alone a Christian
-
For whosever says God doesn't care about what you wear as long as your heart is right, I wouldn't be so sure about that. God does care about what you wear, why would He write it in His word how women should dress if He didn't care. He says that women should be modest, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or coslty garments, that's because He cares. Pentecostals do not have to wear skirts. They wear skirts because they are convicted by the Holy Spirit.
-
Why dont people consider the words of modern "lams of god" like David Koresh (waco Texas) As far as IM concerned, he was speaking the words that God didnt know how to write down himself, just like the authors of the bible did it for God a few thousand years ago. What makes those ancient writers any more qualified or different to claim their writings were the word of god.
-
What? As opposed to bicycle shorts?! ;-)
-
I have been raised in a pentecostal church. Nad all of us wear skirts. YES, for us it is a sin to waer pants. The majority of the pentecostal girls do not because they choose not to, when knowing that it's a sin. But YES, if one wants to follow the right path, you MUST wear skirts all the time :)
-
Never mind the skirts. How about underwear?
-
If we study our Word, and do line by line and precept by precept, we will find that we are all have come short of what God is really commanding us to do. #l. To LOVE one another and if you don't live by that commandment, what difference does it make it we wear a dress to the floor or pants.
-
Yes, If one feels personally led by God to wear only dresses and skirts. However, that was not in my case. I did not feel any guilt or sin by wearing modest clothing of any kind, including dress pants. As a public educator, I had to sit on the floor and sometimes even crawl around. So I knew that dress pants would certainly be much more modest and decent! However, a very interesting thing happen one day at school. I overheard some of my Pentecostal students(Little girls) discussing that of course their teacher could only wear dresses and skirts, now! My decision was made for me by them. God Bless, Texas teacher

i have been attending a pentecostal church and believe that alot of it's beliefs regarding appearance are legalistic. in the Bible Paul says we've been saved by grace and not by works- he says no one should boast. Check out the book of Galatians or Galatas for those who read the spanish bible. As Christains we are living the new covanant and are no longer in bondage to the law. We should live upstanding lives as embassadors of Christ but shouldn't be like the Pharisees either, who were known for making new weighty rules for people to follow. Christ says to be careful of the yeast of the Pharisees. The yeast is their teaching, and their teaching is legalism The only two rules Christ emphasized for one to go to heaven were to "love the Lord your God with all your heart" and "love your neighbor as yourself." It's interesting that the Pentecostal church emphasises so many rules about apearance- no pants, make up, earrings, or dyed hair. But they forget that Paul talking to one of the churches spoke about breading the hair- the verse that says "let your beauty come from within and not from gold jewelry..." I'm parafrasing, but look it up on bible gateway.com if you need a reference and than check it out in your pentecostal bible it's all their. Also if we are going to take upon us the yoke of the law, should we stone or children to death if they are disobedient?
-
I'm 18 and have been in Apostolic church all my life. I recieved the Holy Ghost when I was 11 and immediately started wearing skirts because thats what everyone else did. Not because I felt convicted. I completely disagree with the above statement. Its only a sin if by wearing them you are disobeying your pastor. Otherwise its a personal choice. Many claim that Apostolic women shouldn't wear pants because they pertain to man. And vice versa. If this is right then how can a pastor wear a robe and it not be a sin? The robe 'pertains to' a dress which in our culture is exclusively for women. If you restrict women in this respect then wouldn't you also have to take into account the other scriptures? like the one about a women shouldn't wear gold or broided(braided) hair? Also aren't we supposed to be living by the new testament? God's new covenant with his people? So Deut 22:5 (which gets used in the completely wrong context anyways) doesn't apply to women wearing pants because it isnt repeated in the new testament and it is referring to transvestites. God wants the man in his place and the woman in hers. Just as he made them. Plus if God saw wearing pants as an abomination for women, Why would he, for example, allow an Apostolic woman to get a job that required her to dress accordingly? Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm striving to make it into heaven and be free of all these man-made rules!
-
I'm an apostolic lady who has worn a skirt everyday for the past 12+ years. I have no regrets; I don't feel "legalized" to do it; I taught first grade for three years and was able to get down on the rug with them and still be modest; I live in Maine and have weathered some very cold temperatures while still wearing my skirts. I don't understand why so many people have such an issue with it. The culture we live in stills views skirts as women's apparel, I'm not hurting anyone and in fact I've gained many people's respect all still while wearing skirts. The truth of the matter is, we all have lines that we set for ourselves; some say they won't wear a shirt that shows cleavage, some say I won't watch anything rated over pg13, some say I won't use certain cuss words. Why should it matter to anyone else that some have chosen to draw the line at not wearing pants?? The one who stated to two commandments Jesus left have hit the mark. The first and greatest commandment is to love the Lord thy God with all your being. So, that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to love Jesus and show it in my obedience in what He has asked me personally to do.
-
The wearing of skirts is a personal choice. You have the absolute right to decide whether to wear skirts or pants. Making an issue out of wearing skirts, or pants is legalistic in nature. According to biblical teachings, we are either the "Law" or under "Faith", not both together. If you live your life under rules and regulations then you are living under the "Law", and you are not under "Faith". This is a biblical fact. There are churches that will tell you that: You have to wear a hat. you can never shave your legs. You can never use perfume. You can never cut your hair. You have to wear a veil. You could only wear a certain color skirt or blouse. women on the left & men on the right or vice versa. There is a book that I recommend for those wanting to know more about legalism and faith it is: "Lucifer Exposed, The Devi's Plan To Destroy Your Life" by Derek Prince. Any theological seminary will also tell you that same thing that I'm telling you. The issue of either wearing skirts or pants should ONLY be based on Godly Conviction, and not because you see other people doing it, and not if you feel left out for not wearing skirts. The best course of action to follow is to ask god for wisdom to determine the true basis behind any rules and regulations that are being asked of you. Personal conviction is unreliable becuase it is a personal decision and false under the category of "trying to accomplish righteousness by deeds" as opposed to righteousness by faith. Your decision must come from God, and only God. Fast and pray on it if you must. God Bless You, Marisol.

In addition to my prior posting: - - - the bible does not teach that women have to wear skirts at all times. That teaching was taken out of context. You have to read the entire chapter to get the gist of what was being said. During the time that the particular verse was written that was a problem with men dressing in women's clothes and behaving very feminine. Basically they were transvestites. The following was taken from extra-biblical resources which dirrectly corresponds to the bible: The obvious reasoning behind transvestites is to seduce men into homosexual sex, and/or women into lesbian sex. They were dressing as women in order to seduce men into homosexual sex. What this is basically teaching is that do not dress as a transvestite. There was indeed differences in clothing that were either masculine or feminine which depended on the cut or the length of the clothes, and not on an entirely different attiture, such as the differences between skirts or pants. Back in the time of Jesus, He and the disciples did not wear pants. Pants were not normal attire for either men or women during the time. This means that the issue of wearing pants as opposed to skirts is not biblical at all, but a new concept due to taking the bible out of context. Basically, if you read a chapter, read and understand the entire chapter. Don't take one word out of the chapster here and there and make your own theology. Sometimes when there is disagreement on a particular word in an entire chapter, please read the entire chapter. Secondly there were concepts and nuances in the original biblical language that were not properly translated. This is a big problem today.

I find it interesting that where I love it can be 30degrees outside, you'll find people wearing their short shorts, but is offended when I wear a long skirt. I love my skirts/dresses, find that I feel much more like a lady. I gave my jeans up years ago, loving every minute of it.

To basically sum up your question. Do Apostolic women have to wear skirts, yes! First because in the Apostolic faith, If your leader or Pastor requires you to follow "holiness" then you have to do it!! If you don't then you are being disobedient. And in the bible it say's Disobedience is better than sacrifice! But it is a choice whether you want to follow it or not. But you can no longer be apart of that church if you disagree on the way that church does things. I am pentecostal myself and we believe in truthful sinless holiness!! But it is a choice. We are not teaching people that you are going to go to hel because you have on pants, makeup, etc. We are just following the bible and what it says in the way it teaches us!! God Bless, Bro. Ken Washington PAW, Pentecostal Assemblies of the World

that's their choice and i have the upmost respect for it....it harms no one and it heeds God's instructions, Old and New..but basically God tells of HIS always dressing MODESTLY..no cleavage, short skirts, tight, mainly anything that will cause men to look and lust..they are human ...

Hey, believe me I am all about the women wearing skirts, I am Apostolic myself. First of all, I have a questions, have anyone studied Deuteronomy 22:5 in context with the Hebrew language? Now this is the original language in which it was written. Now, it is good to be obedient to your Pastor, but what does GOD's word say. And then another thing is this, why do everyone speak of pants and skirts, the verse says, "that which pertaineth to", so that lets' me know that it is more than pants and skirts. Besides, study the Hebrew, get a Strong's Concordanance, look up every word in Deut. 22:5 and then make a new statement. You just may have some new questions, study who had the purse in the Bible, study who wore skirts in the Bible. They say man wore pants, but breeches are worn by Priest where I seen it, and history does say that some men wore them. Looking at History, what about sneakers, in History who wore stockings, heels, and wigs. I will stop there, because I am still studying to have a full clear understanding. 2 Tim. 2:15 reads, "Study to show thyself approved unto GOD"... I am all Apostolic and I love it, but I got to know the truth for myself, so I can preach the word of GOD with out any hesitation. I Love my GOD JESUS and I want to know him fully, that I and all of you may be saved.

I've been a pastor in the apostolic church for five years, saved, baptized in Jesus Name, and filled with the Holy Ghost 8 years ago. I was saved under a ministry in which women did not wear pants at all, and wore headcoverings. It was a COOLJC church in central Tennessee, which maintains an extremely high standard of holiness for women's appearel. When I went into ministry God called and convicted me only to require only that women wear dresses during worship and did not call me to preach that women wear headcoverings (however many at our church do so and don't wear pants at all). I now pastor for a PCAF church in Maryland. He did so with the understanding attatched to it that he wanted purity and modesty promoted in the dress of the saints of God during worship. God wants himself to be the focus of worship, not women's bodies or men's for that matter. Regardless, Holiness is still God's standard for hisn people at all times. My wife does not wear pants, as it's her own conviction. We allow my daughter to but she does not wear shorts. As both MEN AND WOMEN we are expected to take on a holy appearence that separates us from the world and allows us to be easily identifiable before the world. There must be a clear disciplined standard, in and outside of the church. Apostolics are also not the only christians who practice such doctrines. I miss my bros and sisters in the COGIC and old Holiness church who practiced the same doctrines. their becoming more and more rare however.

Every single Apostolic woman (and girl) I have ever seen has worn only skirts. I feel bad for these women and girls. They seem very isolated from the freedom (which is not necessarily sinful) that other women and children have. It seems that covering women up is just another form of male dominance and the subjection of women. What Pentecostal women are subjected too is the same atmosphere of repression and coercion that exists in other cultures in which women are treated like second-class citizens. There is nothing so sinful about a woman's body that it must be covered up. People must understand that the Bible was written in a certain time period. It has a context in which things must be interpreted, not blindly followed.

Don't HAVE to but those who have received the holy ghost, want to obey the Lord, choose to separate themselves from the world for they have no desire to please the world but all desire to please God.. CHOOSE to.. Because they have come to the realization, "it's not about me but about God".. ALSO (not saying you're going to go to hell if you're a woman and wear pants but)if you truly receive the holy ghost God WILL deal with you on certain things to where you will become convicted on things in which you would not have before you received it. Before we get deep in on the subject of outward appearance we shall speak of the inner appearance in which is more important for it comes first. Our heart must be right and true to God and if it truly* is then to make it to heaven the standards FROM THE BIBLE shall follow. You must be born again of the spirit to enter the kingdom of heaven (JOHN 3:5). The spirit is the holy ghost. In the book of Acts, the bible explains what will happen to you when or if you receive the holy ghost. The Holy Ghost consists of being drunk in the spirit and speaking in tongues. The holy ghost is not something that just appears and you can't make yourself speak in tongues!!! You have to completely* surrender* thyself unto the Lord... The Lord doesn't need you.. you need the Lord, therefore until you come to that realization and begin to TRULY* seek after the Lord and his true* truth you will receive the holy ghost (be drunk in the spirit and speak in tongues). And that's when conviction begins to grow as you grow stronger in the Lord. We are to wear clothing of that in which pertaineths of our gender (DEUTERONOMY 22:5) Wearing a skirt is of women’s apparels... Pants are of men. It wasn't until the 1920's when women started rebelling and wanted to be equal as men that women began to wear pants. Bet you didn't know that!?! As it grows closer and closer to the end times the devil's works become more and more unnoticeable by the world. Another example we can use is.. Draw a stick figure of a boy then draw a stick figure of a girl. To show the difference between the boy and girl is that the boy is straight-legged because he is known to wear pants and the girl’s body is triangular because she is known to wear a skirt. Nature itself teaches us that short is of men (1 CORINTHIANS 11:14,15) and it is a glory for a woman to have long hair. Wearing no jewelry or make-up is just being pure and not glorifying yourself and not caring to please the world but being as God made you. Also if you read 1TIMOTHY 2:9 you will find it's pleasing unto the Lord. If you're a woman and you've received the holy ghost and don't feel conviction about wearing pants, make up, or jewelry... Knowing what the word says, it is your responsibility to abide by it. If you choose to obey the word or not, relies on you BUT you can't argue with the word of God! If you truly love God you will obey his commandments (JOHN 14:15).. At least be safe, if the bible says to do it then we shall.. WHY EVEN RISK spending eternity in hell? Life on earth is a test within itself, win you go to heaven.. you lose you go to hell. To win we have the bible to show us the way for victory. We shall keep in mind this scripture and take it into deep thought: Straight is the gate and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and FEW there be that find it (MATTHEW 6:22). Surrendering and sacrificing worldly desires to make it to heaven may not be easy.. but it will be WORTH IT!

Where in the bible does it outline what is man's clothing and what is strictly women's clothing? I'm not a bible scholar by any means, and correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't mean wear cloaks and tunics that would appear to be like that of a dress? If so then I am wondering what exactly it was that made that seperation of being a woman's tunic as compared to a man's? If the idea that men wore pants and women wore dresses came along later, then what was it for that specific time period that was the differentiator? I'm trying to understand this better myself. If someone feels this is a way she can glorify God by wearing skirts then she should. My question is if this is something done strictly off of what scripture says then what other verses are there besides those in Deut. and 1 Tim.? Thanks so much!

saying that her head being shaved is something that God did say in corinthians... you sying that it is ridiculous is saying that God commanding that is ridiculous. Its biblical. and the bible clearly states that CUT hair no matter if its to your feet is as bad as being shaved.

attend an apostolic church that believes that women should not wear pants inside or outside of the church. But i have never been personally convicted of wearing pants and i think that requiring women to wear only skirts is a form of dictatorship slavery has been abolished and so the chains of bondage should now be broken. God looks at the heart but man the outward appearance as seen by the people that Jesus hung out with the sinners the outcasts and not once did he make them feel rejected he accepted them and ate with them. God gives us Free will and a conscience to choose what we deem as right or wrong on judgment day we will be judged for all that we have done in these earthly bodies not your pastor or bishop but you the individual. It is Stupid to live your life by the doctrine’s that men has set because men are not God seek his face and you will find him maximize your life to the fullest and win souls for the kingdom as Jesus did do not judge that you may not be judge. God loves us just the way we are and he is waiting on us to realize our mistakes so that he can help us to overcome them and be able to help others overcome the same obstacles!
-
so check this is it right for a pastor or bishop to tell his members that the women should not wear pants to or outside of the church and then as a result the female members leave because they find that to be Irrational. As a result of the members leaving the church is not only empty but now left with 13000 dollars and more in expenses and they are at risk for selling the church. Now do you think that God is pleased with that decision knowing that the bishop and or pastor has caused the members not only leave the church but left the church in many expenses and know they are complaing and begging the remaining members for money. I think that the lord would tell them that they made the decision to enforce that law of women not being able to wear pants and as a result they must deal with the repercussions of their decision because its of out his hands God didnt force them to make that decision they made it on their own and therefore they have to solve it by themselves and the blood of those individuals that left will forever be on their hands and when they are judged the lord will ask them to account for all of the members that they had and why they caused them to leave and stood in the way of their salvation ! then what only the lord knows for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God but bishops and pastors need to be wise because he that winneth a soul is Wise!

I hope they don't and I hope I can find out where they hang out...woo hoo!

Apostolics/Pentecostals adhere to a number of traditions that are just that--traditions, and never wearing pants is one of them. These same views were simply carried over into the "pentecostal movement" from the "holiness movement." There is absolutely no Biblical commandment found in the Bible against women wearing pants. People of the Bible did NOT wear pants. Pants were an invention of the Medes and Persians in the 4th century BC. Deuteronomy 22:5 refers to "cultic" transvestitism, a practice of the Canaanites in worship of pagan gods. The verse refers to "transvestite warrior dressing." The Pentecostals never show this verse within its proper context. It does not refer to cultural cross-dressing in our day and time and our culture at all whatsoever.

I go to pan apostolic church myself and I just don't understand why I have to wear skirts AALL the time. God wants us women to modest and you still can wear pants modestly. I recieved the gift of the holy ghost when I wore pants and I continued for 8 years . I hung up my jeans for skirts to build a better relationship with GOD. To my suprise Nothing changed I actually bcame depressed and had lo self esteem. I am not convicted over pants so I really wanna go back. I hate skirts point blank! Middle eastern men and women look like they both have dresses on there is a tunic for men and tunic for women. Just like wen I go to the levis jeans store I see a side for women and one for men. The pants look the same but are designed differently one for a Womans body and one for a man. Men were the. First to sport bags and purses now women. So that must be a mans garment. I'm 16 and I can't wait until I'm 18 so I can move out go back to my jeans

The early church was separated in that they did NOT worship nor honor the pagan deities nor the Emperor--NOT in their clothing! Women in the early church dressed in the same clothing the rest of the female Roman Empire dressed in. They did NOT stick out like sore thumbs in their dress, the way the Pentecostals and the other "holiness" branches like to. Had they looked like these women, they would have been arrested. Authorities would have known the Christians by their dress, but it was the PUBLIC CONFESSION OF CHRIST WITH THE MOUTH--their public testimony that got them arrested. This is how they knew the Christians, and not in their dress!
