"Everything is Illuminated" or "Schindler's List"

The Lord of The Rings trilogy, though I really wish they would have done a good The Hobbit.
-
Hunt For Red October by Tom Clancy. That movie was so friggen cool. Great translation from book to movie.

The Mist

pride and prejudice. i liked both movie versions (yes, even the four hour one).

I think the 1984 adaptation of Nineteen Eighty Four (with John Hurt) was incredibly well done and faithful to the novel.

Ok, the first 10 minutes of LOTR was awesome because I was all like, hey, that's what the Shire is supposed to look like. The Godfather was better than the book, which was pretty damn good. I'm going to go with Wonder Boys. Tobey Maguire caught the bit about the celebrity suicides in a way that just doesn't come through in the book. Even though I really like Chabon.

To Kill a Mockingbird, Shawshank Redemption, Jaws.. can't pick.

Trainspotting. It's trimmed down, less disturbing, some characters from the book have not been included, instead their personality has been crammed into some of the most known characters, but all the important parts are there. More importantly it's fun, and has style. Only Sickboy doesn't have his ponytail. >_>

All during the filming of Gone with the Wind, Vivian Leigh (Scarlett) carried around her copy of the novel, insisting that they stick to the text. Of course, if you read the novel first, that four-hour movie goes by incredibly fast; but who would watch a twelve-hour movie?

Harry Potter Lord of the Rings Gone with the Wind
-
The Client.
-
The Outsiders.

"Dead Zone" (1983) Jeffery Boam's take on the Stephen King novel is amazing. I truly believe that this movie is one of the few times that a film surpasses the original source material. Having David Cronenberg as a director certainly helped in this regard. Hope this helps.
