Volodymyr Zelensky has been able to use his "enduring appeal," along with a desire for stability to extend his term in office. Other than that, Western aid has failed to save Ukraine from retreat and a possible defeat.

It's "supposed to be in aid of" Russia conquering Ukraine. Yes, the Russians used the excuse that they are fighting for democracy against Nazis (whew, what a whopper!), but it's obviously just a territory grab (with all of the associated goodies included, of course, and Ukraine has plenty).
