I don't think so no more than any other time build on flood plains the buildings will flood when the river reclaims its path floods on the east coast are nothing new. plenty of the places you see on tv underwater have flooded before most more than once in my life time.

I think that Australia is far from experiencing new catastrophic storms, especially with climate change and global warming. I think these phenomenas caused Australia's wild fires too.
