About the only way for a human to get Avian flu is to lick a chicken. Seriously: human cases in Asia were pretty consistently very poor farmers or farm hands who lived with the chickens. *** That being said: it's unfortunate that it's made it to North America. We're likely to have a pandemic and huge rise in prices in poultry. *** A vaccine is possible. In fact: it might already exist (for the particular strain in question). Difficult to say what the cost would be. Hopefully the government would supply it free of charge to poultry farmers, preventing a huge rise in prices.
