  • You misunderstand. The "fast" in fast food has nothing to do with speed. The word "fast" can mean "at speed" or it can mean "stuck in place". The term "fast food" alludes to food being available at one fixed location, thus saving you running around for it.

      Or it could mean a period of time without eating or drinking, as in, while you wait in the "drive thru," you are fasting. Unless you brought donuts with you like a good stereotypical American, right?
