  • Without sliced bread there would be no toast and I love my morning toast with jam.

Good answer. Don't you just love the way the slices fit into your toaster ?

RC, I'm dating my responses now too. :)

  • It saves 15 minutes of slicing it myself.

I hear you. I used to buy loaves of rye bread, Slicing for a sandwich was fine but good luck getting two slices to fit in the toaster.
  • I recently discovered that Betty White is older than sliced bread. That led me to look up some pictures of her when she was young. Well, when she was young she was a nude model.
    • Ice man
And good looking too. : )
    • Thriftymaid
      No she wasn't!! I'm shocked. 11-22

@ Thriftymaid - Actually Jewels is right. Older than sliced bread - Betty White born in 1922, sliced bread 1927. Nude modeling is true too, around age 21. Google it, it's there - photos and all. Lol : )

Very attractive and cute too. She had a hit TV series in the early and mid 1950s which I think she produced herself. At the end of every episode - which usually involved some activity with her husband on the show - the announcer would ask her "Well now aren't you ashamed of yourself?" And she would slowly smile and shake her head and say "No". That was I think before I was born.
  • The unsliced loaf of bread has brought quality to the dinner table. :) Ice, how do we become friends. I looked on your profile and don't find a way to do it. I would like to connect, even though here it seems to mean little, with ABers as I come across them. 11-22-16 (They have got to date the questions/answers/comments.....)

Hi, unfortunately adding friends is just one of the things we can't do here "yet", but as soon as we can I'll be putting it to good use. There are many missing features that we use to enjoy at the old site. The new AB is a work in progress and it is happening painfully slow. I don't believe the new owner(s?) have anywhere near the resources that Demand Media had .. so it's going to take time I'm afraid.
  • Sorry I buy bread unsliced. Even when at the store they offer to slice it for me.
    • Ice man
That's alright, no need to be sorry. I still buy the occasional unsliced loaf of Rye or Pumpernickel, but I don't want it being spread around so let's keep that to ourselves okay ? (lol)
  • Made me apreciate my wife just that much more as she is the best thing to happen to me since sliced bread.
    • Ice man
      Now that's a GREAT answer !! Thanks : )
  • There were people who thought the idea of sliced bread would never catch on that it would get stale too quickly. Actually I think it fueled the restaurant industry didn't it?
    • Ice man
You might be right, I don't know.
  • 5-30-2017 I never thought about it until I started baking bread. Slicing bread by hand is a d*m nuisance. I tried using an electric knife and that helped, but just heating a plain knife made it almost tolerable.

Slicing fresh baked bread is a challenge at best.
