  • I highly doubt that you can make a magnet levitate in the earths magnetic field. Primarily due to the weakness of the earths field, gravitational forces, and the fact that the earth it's self is in the way. A small magnet would allign towards the earth's field lines. A large one (Probably in order of 100's km's wide) would probably cause the earth to allign to it. (although it may not due to friction). However, everything consisting of matter can be magnatized. I saw this video in first year physics of a frog levitating in an intese magnetic field. Essentially, anything with electrons can become a magnet.
