Actually, yes. I was shocked. I am definitely NOT a genius! If they only knew...
-
Many times in fact, after helping people solve a problem they would often say: "Thanks man, you're a genius!" but that happens to everyone doesn't it? The word is used so loosely I find. I think the better question here is how does one tag someone else as a genius or what IS a genius? If being a genius is being smarter than someone with less experience in a given subject, then we are potentially ALL geniuses no? I believe that a genius is simply a prestigeous title we give someone WE believe is smarter than us. If enough people think you're smarter than they are (say hundreds or thousands), then you can be considered a true genius I guess. But if it's only been said to you about one or two times, then I wouldn't worry about it, they were probably just using the word loosely.
-
Yes. But I believe that some people would rather take it as a complment rather than brandish it as a wild accusation.. I am definitely not a genius though, as I have trouble tying my own shoelace
-
Only by friends in a very narrow range of subjects :)
-
i wouldnt really call it being accused, i think u should be happy if someone tells u ur a genius..its a compliment
-
Not accused but I've taken it as a compliment from the person. Of course, they were mistaken.
-
Not recently no.
-
Only once, and I was quick to point out the mistake. Thankfully, it hasn't happened since.
-
Accused? It is scarcely a crime! Yes, people have said it to me...Actually, I don't think I am..my IQ is only about 131/2, which isn't genius level, but I suppose I am smart. Still, IQ isn't everything.
-
Yeah, I'm pretty sure, but they are so very wrong... I'm the least genius-like person I know. Well, maybe not the least (I live in the South!), but... eh...
-
For some odd reason that I am unaware of, yes.
-
To the best of my recollection, no. I've heard someone call an idea that I came up with "Genius", but I'm not sure if anyone has ever used the word in direct reference to me. Which is good, because I hate having to tell people when they're wrong.
-
No, but I have been accused of thinking too much and overanalyzing everything
-
HaHa no way!
-
Not so far :)

According to a few bits of paper, I am considered a Genius. I have a tested I.Q of 184. Personally, I.Q tests and the like don't mean an awful lot to me. There are thousands of things that thousands of people are better at doing and understanding than I am - there are concepts, such as Quantum Physics, that leave me in a cold sweat just hearing about. For every smart person, there is always someone ten times smarter. Intelligence, to me, doesn't equal a number, but, more so, how you apply your mind to how you live your life, and the choices you make. However, some people do come to expect "more" from you once they know your intelligence level and they invest far too much in it and what you "should" be capable of. This is when the accusations start flying thick and fast. For example: "But, I thought you were supposed to be a Genius? Why can't you explain Chemical Engineering to me in a 5 minute, comprehensive paragraph?" or "You're a Genius. Come on. Aren't typo's beneath you?" When people develop a certain idea in their minds as to how you should do certain things, they tend to become overly critical and rarely allow you to make mistakes. As Oscar Levant said: "There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line."
-
Yes, too many times. It gets annoying, and besides, I am not a genius. I just do the things I am asked to to and more. Other people I know just do the very minimum.
-
Yes, when I took and passed the Mensa test ... and became a Mensa certified genius ... ID# 7827 (May 1992). Sometimes its "Great Minds Think Alike" ... and sometimes its "Fools Seldom Differ". It is better to be silent and thought a fool than to speak up in a way that removes all doubt.
-
Yes, however, I had to disagree.
-
Falsely.
-
Yes. And I have the Mensa membership card to prove it. It's a pain, though...whenever I do something stooooooooopid, my husband taunts: "I thought you were a genius!"
-
They would say more of a gifted savant with strokes of genius.
-
Yes, convicted even. Our justice system needs work.
-
As most of the people who have responded to this. I have, and naturally disagreed with it, to fit in. Even so, it is just a mere label placed upon a person. It can be just as annoying and painful as a person claiming you are a complete moron. Not that I don't appreciate it, but it can get annoying. I wouldn't know if I was or not. A.
-
The opposite hihihi
-
All the time, I wish theyd stop. (Does anyone know the 'Sign' for sarcasm?):D
-
Yes, but it's not true.
-
Allegedly.
-
No, and I do not expect to be, any time soon :)
-
That's so strange, because I happen to be a genius.
-
yes.... and not just sarcastically
-
Never in the correct tone.
-
Always.
-
All of the time..okay..so not really..but someday..someday I will..lol :)
-
Evil genius maybe.
-
On a couple of occasions, but I took the criticism and kept going on.
-
All the time, really... it's just too bad that they're ALWAYS sarcastic when they say it...<sigh>
-
yeh, but mostly it's for my practical jokes i play on people :)
-
Yes. Everything is relative...
-
All the time.
-
yeah... and im so damn guilty! wahaha! lol!
-
I'm nearly 33 levels away from genius LOL
-
Yes, but only because I actually listen to the teacher in school, and reexplain all the stuff he'she JUST said to the people who didn't pay any attention at all. Plus, I'm pretty smart, but not genius smart. I have pretty good social skills when I want to, so that right there shows you I'm no genius.
-
Um..sure, yeah....all the time yo...
-
ohh, no, I missed out on that one !!
-
Actually, yes, but I usually disregard the accusation because I'm far from it.
-
Yes, by Oklahoma State University, and teachers and schools since age 4
-
does a smartass count? :P
-
Accusations of my ingenuity, brain power and powers of debating have been levied in my direction since quite a young age. I have borne the same as magnanimously as I am able and duly humbled. In the company of great thinkers and minds, constantly seek out new avenues to pour forth my off the cuff mumblings. Thank you for this opportunity in self aggrandisement and narcissism.
-
Accused, tried, convicted and sentenced to life in academia without possibility of parole.
-
No but very knowledgable
-
I've been accused of being as boring as a dictionary, if that counts. XD
-
It has happened before. I claim no responsibility...
-
.
-
....
-
..
-
Ahahaha. Haha. No.
-
Yes.. but arenβt we all ? When people imply that I am, I tell them to define genius, or smartβ¦ My conclusion to this is that a genius is in the eyes of the beholder. You maybe a genius amongst your peers and to some others you get introduced to, but not to all.
-
Yes I have been accused of being a genius.
-
no... and don't even fucking think about it because i don't take kindly to false accusations.
-
Yeah. Each time I fucked up something.
-
Yes! The staff did that the other day! I managed to prove them wrong, and end the doubt once and for alll!!!
