  • Changing the LCD display on a Dell Inspiron 9300 can seem like a daunting task for those who aren't tech-savvy or skilled at making repairs. The process involves disconnecting several wires and electrical components, as well as carefully handling sensitive electronic devices. Ground yourself to avoid electrostatic discharge into the computer by keeping one hand on the unpainted metal surface of the computer's back panel or by using a wrist grounding strap.

    Remove the Main Battery

Disconnect the computer from all devices, network cables and electrical outlets. Close the display assembly and lay the computer upside down. Slide the battery-bay latch release to remove the main battery from the bottom of the computer. Turn the computer right-side up and remove all PC cards from the PC card slot. Loosen the two captive screws on the Mini PCI card cover on the bottom of the computer, then disconnect the antenna cables from the card.

Remove the Display Assembly and Frame

Remove the hinge cover on the top side of the computer. Open the display assembly so it lies flat. Disconnect the display cable using the pull-tabs and remove it from the cable channel. Remove the two screws on each hinge of the display assembly. Pull the display assembly away from the computer. Pull off the rubber screw-covers around the display frame or display bezel. Unscrew all of the screws around the display bezel. Carefully pry off and pull away the display bezel from the back cover of the display assembly.

    Remove the LCD Display Panel

Unscrew the ground screw that connects the ground wire of the LCD display panel to the back cover of the display assembly. Remove the four screws along both the left and right sides of the display assembly that hold the LCD display panel in place. Pull the LCD display panel away from the back cover of the display assembly. Press on both sides of the top-flex cable connector to remove it from the display connector. Disconnect the bottom flex-cable connector from the inverter connector using the pull tab.

Install the New LCD Display Panel

Connect the top of the new display cable connector to the top flex-cable connector. Connect the bottom flex-cable connector to the inverter connector. Set the new LCD display panel in place in the back cover of the display assembly. Replace the ground screw to attach the ground wire of the new LCD display panel to the back cover of the display assembly. Replace the four screws on the left and right sides of the back cover of the display assembly to hold the new LCD display panel in place.

    Reassemble

Snap the display bezel in place over the LCD display panel. Replace the screws and screw covers. Set the display assembly into place against the base of the computer and replace the hinge screws to hold it in place. Thread the Mini PCI card antenna cables through the base of the computer. Reconnect the display cable to the system board and reroute it into the cable channel. Replace the hinge cover and the Mini PCI card cover. Return the PC cards and main battery into place and reconnect all devices and network cables.
