If the mother and daughter have a good relationship otherwise, then yes, I am a firm believer in parents instructing their offspring on sexual things. Who better to teach her daughter how to masturbate then her mother? Same for a son and his father. Girls are a little more complicated however than guys. Parents need to get over sexual embarrassments with their children. They should not rely on "Sex ed" classes to do it...every state is different in teaching and none do better than a poor job.

I don't think showing them would be appropriate, but maybe giving guide lines and information about health and safety (like don't use a pencil, or any other object that can cause damage etc).

No my mom never did this. Although we had talk she never cross that line. I feel parents now a days a blurring the line of what apprioiate and not apprioiate for their kids.
