• The true fact is that both theists and atheists would be better off if they could be willing to admit the possibility of their being wrong. But for atheists their whole argument will be lost if they were to say that they could possibly be wrong in matters relating to God.
• I'm an agnostic. I've been wrong plenty enough times to know better than claiming absolute enlightenment on anything.
• We have a show with just atheists on it, late at night, like a home-city show. Listening to it is like saying I don't exist or if I do, I know more than anyone, I might as well be god, but call me atheist instead. It is such a basic question of where everything comes from and they have no answer or say it is irrelevant. And what is our purpose being here? Why not adopt the Playboy philosophy? Enough. I was really trying to be convinced and all I got was narcissism and stupidity. Before the atheists DR me, I first ask you to consider: I tried Mensan's question in reverse and nothing's there. Give me something that contradicts or provides solutions to these points.
• It is, of course, possible. Current evidence, though, would indicate that all the gods and goddesses populating human culture and history (there are hundreds of thousands of them - literally) are creations of ours, rather than vice versa. Evidence may one day turn up to the contrary. At that point I guess my outlook will follow the evidence.
• Sure, no problem: I might be wrong.
• Maybe, there is a possibility. And my soul will end up in hell anyway. I've put down Gawd so much, there is no salvation for me. Mensan, I think you are one who thinks he might be wrong because you can't spell god correctly.
• Of course I might be wrong. New evidence would certainly force me to reconsider. My (dis)belief is entirely evidence based. And the evidence presented in the Bible, Koran etc. wouldn't convince me to buy a second-hand car, let alone a whole way of life.
• Sure, I could be wrong. I hope someone can prove it one day.
• "I might be wrong" about what? You're making the same silly mistake made by kids in playground debates. You don't hear atheists declaring, "There is no god." - If I don't hold a belief in your favorite god, it's NOT the same as declaring that your god doesn't exist. "The absence of belief is not the same as belief of absence." - >>Usually what I hear is, "I can't ever be wrong, about Gawd."<< Oh, bullshit. You have never heard anybody say that. Where do you get this stuff? Bad dreams? Have a glass of milk before you go to bed. Before you post another question, first try to understand just what you want to know. If you're not sure (and this question indicates you're not), then how do you expect the reader to know? Next, work on a better way to express it. As it stands, your question makes no sense. No need to thank me; just try to do better next time. :) • • • • •
• For money I will. But it has to be enough to go on a good shopping spree..cause either way, i already know i'm right.
• Of course I could be wrong, that's the whole thing isn't it? Nobody knows for sure, nobody ever will. There are so many possibilities that we can think of and much more possibilities we can't even think of, that's why this whole 'this is the truth'- thing is completely nonsense and a waist of time.
• Not only would any atheist ABer with any kind of IQ happily say it but so would, and have, the most prominent atheists of our time, like Dawkins for example. Every sensible atheist knows they COULD be wrong (basic science dictates one could theoretically be wrong about any evidentially non-existent entity), but atheists just absolutely don't believe they are wrong about this; why would they? Similarly, we COULD also be wrong about unicorns and orbitting blue teapots but there is no evidence to suggest we are. Simple.
• How you know that any of those other Gods don't exist either?
• Have NEVER once heard a Christian admit THEY could be wrong.. I'll say this. There is a possibility I am wrong about the existance of GOD or a Creator. As there really is no way to disprove that. I could absolutely be wrong about God.. But I don't feel the same about religion. In my opinion religion IS NOT the word of God.. It's the word of greedy, power-hungry men who used fear to seize control (Catholic Church) Think about it, you have no say in it, it's no more than a dictatorship. I will never EVER believe it is more than just a method of controling the masses. Sorry.
• Of course I might be wrong!! It's not intelligent to close your mind. You have to be completely open to the idea that your beliefs are totally incorrect.
• of course there is always a possibility I maybe wrong and if I am then I will be the first to put my hand up and say so, BUT up to this point in time I am not wrong
• Sure. I have said many times, god is almost certainly a fiction (or something to that effect). That leaves open the possibility - though I also say I'm sure enough to simply "round up" so I very much doubt I'm wrong on it due to the complete lack of any supporting evidence. :-) +5
• An atheist could no more say that than a believer could say it. Your question describes agnostics.
• I said plenty of times that there is no way for me or anyone else to know positively about the existence of "Gawd." In fact, I don't think I've ever in my entire life heard an atheist say anything even similar to "I can't ever be wrong." Usually that's what people claim that atheists say without pointing out an example.
• It's quite a guessing game we're all involved in...too bad there has to be so much animousity attached to it.
• Certainly, but a more telling question is this: Is there an AB religious nut willing to reciprocate?
• Sure, I'll say it, no problem. There's a possibility that I really might be wrong. If someone proves that for me, then I'll happily change my view. I require evidence for that, though. I'm a scientist by training, and that's how it works. You have a working theory, and you test it, and if the theory proves wrong you adjust it. I just haven't seen anything yet to convince me that my working theory of how the universe works is incorrect.
• As an agnostic atheist, I openly admit the possibility that a god might exist. However, in the absence of evidence of such an entity, I am not going to structure my life around myth.
• I'm agnostic (lit:greek "I don't know". +2
• I'm happy to say it. I would be extremely unscientific if I didn't. What about you? I presume you believe in some kind of deity, are you prepared to accept that you might be wrong? My statement is; I've considered all the evidence, there is no conclusive evidence either way (particularly not for some of the conscious deity theories we have nowadays) and thus I personally conclude God doesn't exist.
• I think you are are working from an incorrect assumption here. I will admit that I could be wrong, and most will. This question really seems arrogant to me, so if I'm misreading your tone, try to express yourself more clearly next time.
• Mensan - why do you write "Gawd" instead of "God"?
• Sure. Why not? It's not like I have a god breathing down my neck ready to smite me for blasphemy. I'm not willing to say there's a probability, mind you, but a possibility? Anything's possible.
• What is there to be wrong about? God is non existent to me because there is very little evidence to suggest there is a God. So.. until that day comes when evidence changes in favour of a God ,(which i highly, highly doubt!) Then i will continue to believe i am correct.
• Aye, i admit that there is a just as much chance i could be wrong as a beleiver could be wrong. My reasons for not believing in God are more personal than a matter of proof. x
• Let me answer from a different perspective. I'm an atheist / agnostic; I don't believe in god or gods, but I don't have (can't have) enough evidence to say It / They don't exist. If I find out that I'm wrong sometime and god/s do exist, then my fallback position is "God made me this way." I'm covered.
• Absolutely. I have no problem saying that I could be wrong. I have no evidence of a god and therefore don't believe in one. If I did have conclusive evidence of a god I would acknowledge its existence. Many of us who are reasoning atheists are unafraid to say "I could be wrong". As for myself, I cannot base my life on faith. That said, are there any AB theists who are willing to publicly say they could be wrong?
• Certainly. Those are the 'weak Atheists' somewhat closer to agnostics than the 'hard atheists' who say the probability if any god existing is just so ludicrously small it is totally not worth considering. I am a weak atheist myself. I think most atheists are. regards JakobA
• Are there any religious ABers who are willing to publicly say, "There's a possiblity that I really MIGHT be wrong. And that I am worshiping a non-existent, imaginary God and not living my life to its full extent."?
• But then they would be 'agnostic', right? Atheists KNOW there is no god-being. God doesn't exist. Like the monotheist or ‘Semitic’ religions have made stupid people believe for millennia. In TRUTH, there CAN NOT be a parent-master being like "fearsome-but-loving, love-starved, belief-obedience-submission-demanding, prayer-expecting-answering-ignoring, other-‘false’-Gods-hating, non-believers-cursing, possessive, angry, impotent, jealous, mean, sadist, punishing-rewarding, anti-knowledge, curiosity-killer, Satan-fearing, imaginary humanoid” called god! * This TRUTH will set you FREE of all your superstitions!
• It's within the realm of possibility that I am wrong about everything I think, from my lack of belief in a diety to the deeply help belief I have that milk is white and never purple. Too many philosophy classes, and you'll never be certain about anything again.
• That depends upon your definition of God, actually. The more specific and detailed your definition, the more certainty I can have in my disbelief. Of course I might be wrong about a deity of some definition somewhere. It is impossible to disprove a universal negative. However, a personal deity who sent His son to die on a cross for the sinful tendency He designed in humans (after He created the Moon as a lesser of the same thing as the Sun)...well, no. That doesn't exist. I can conclusively disprove this very specific, detailed account by noticing that the Moon is NOT a lesser of the same thing as the Sun. I've not heard any Atheist say that they cannot possibly be wrong about the existence of a type of deity. The disbelief is stated and held in probabilities. (With the probability so low as to be approaching 0.)
• My husband is an atheist, though, because there is no concrete way to know, he does leave the possibility there is something more then he knows. But until science can prove it he will not believe it.
• Can I then possibly here a religious person tell me that he might be wrong.. ??
• Personally I cannot say for sure whether or not any gods exist. And to tell the truth I could care less unless any of them want to teach me their powers. The question could also be asked are there any Religious ABers who are willing to admit to their possible being wrong. The nature of the question is such that it cannot be proven until certain circumstances occur depending on which religion you follow.
• There's a possibility that I really MIGHT be wrong
