This phenomenon is called "Self Fulfilling Fallacy" which means that you fool yourself into believing something that is good for you. Liars think they will never be caught, Gamblers think they will never lose.. People think they wont die.. All are self fulfilling fallacies, and the person getting into this, makes his own brain accustomed to the thought that what he is thinking .. is correct..

Everyone lies. It's not about being caught in a lie, it's about being held accountable for the lie. Since almost nobody holds anybody accountable for lies, being caught is no big deal. We lie to protect emotions, ours and the other person's. We lie to make it seem like we care about something (see emotions above). I have an employee that is late and I ask about why, what they answer tells me about them and how serious they are about their job. Their answer: a)Running late b)Stuck in traffic c)Having sex with the babysitter, nanny, maid, etc. My thought process towards that employee and their future employment: a)terminate at earliest convenience b)Maybe looking to leave, give employee a pat on the back and make them feel noticed and evaluable c)Employee working to hard, give time off or some other type of reward.
