  • Ooty. Full name Ottacamund in Englilsh. Uthagamandalam in the local language. Its a hill station at 7500' altitude. Its a platau on the top of the Nilgiri hills and the climate and scenery can be compared only to Scottish countryside, I am told. There is lake right in the middle of the small town. Excellent for lazy boating. I have spent many a summer holiday there. It is a place of extraordinary scenic beauty. There is tiny narrowguage toy train from the plains to Ooty which was recently declared a World Heritage train by the UNESCO. There are excellent roads too from either side of the mountains. There are Airports too on both side of the hills from you can travel by car or bus. Fine accommodation and food too available.
