I just saw an ad on here saying Blacks cannot be racist. What do you think about that statement?

It's fairly stupid, and only arguable if you have a tortured definition of racism. Ooh, there's the ad to the right as I type this. It actually says "90% of Obama & 99% of McCain voters believe Blacks cannot be racist. Do you? Click here!"

Anyone who believes that a person's color accounts for differences in human character or ability is a racist. Racism is not exclusive to a skin color (that would, in itself, be racist!)

I think it is total BS. Blacks can be racsist. but don't you notice how when a problem arrises with them they always say: it's cause i'm black isn't it. that annoys the crap out of me cause they think everything is about them being black and it isn't! What really crazy is that blacks are often subconsciously prejudiced against blacks. Check out the Implicit Association Test conducted at Harvard. I think there was another one done at Stanford. It measures the reaction time for matching gender or race groups with items from other groups. My evaluation of that statement depends on what is really being asserted. If the person who made that statement has a definition of "racist" that includes the idea of power imbalance (eg racist social systems), then I think that'd be an okay statement to make. Maybe some people would disagree with it but it wouldn't be totally ridiculous. If, however, it's somehow being asserted that a person simply could not be prejudiced on grounds of race, if they were black, then that would be pretty ridiculous.

Well of course they cannot be, Institutional racism has been proven to exist only in predominately White institutions. Also, Blacks didn't impose apartheid and other race based measures. These measures are what normal people have been rallying against since the abolishment of slavery, As Obama said "we're on the road, but we ain't there yet".

Not true. I've been hated by a few black people for being white, and I know a few black people who are prejudice against their own race. But most of them are cool. I have a lot of black friends. It's just that people are people it doesn't matter what color you are or what race you are some people are just going to hate it's not really about race it's about personal choice. Each person is accountable for their own choices and everyone has their own challenges to overcome and personal demons to conquer. But wouldn't it be better if we tried to help each other through it rather than picking each other apart because of our differences?
