If you are referring to the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the Roman Catholic Church: The Sacrament of Reconciliation is important because it washes away sins, and provides graces to the person recieving it. The Catholic is thereby strengthened in their faith and in their ability to make good judgements. An interesting side note: Studies have shown that people who go to Confession are psychologically happier, probably because they have less guilt or shame in their lives.
