  • like an employee....my house keeper is great. she is not a live in...but she come once a week and my house is spotless. She is very nice and is always honest. You should never treat anyone poorly no matter what.
  • I don't have a maid now but when I did she was also my lover. She would come over and clean the house then clean my pipes, so to speak.
  • we have a maid/cleaning lady come by for 4 hours every other week. we pay her, so by simply doing that, she is not treated like a slave. But in addition, I think we treat her good. We tip her when there is a bigger mess than normal (we have a toddler), and are flexible with her when she needs to reschedule, and I am sure we will do something for her at Christmas.
  • As an employee, without question - slavery was abolished in late 1800's!! She or he is paid to work and they are paid to clean/cook within your home for a certain length of time. You need to respect your employee and in turn they will respect you and your home.
  • Nope, no maid. Me and my room mate clean up after ourselves.
  • When I was a child in Louisiana we had a maid. I mean one that cooked, did laundry, the whole bit. My mother still does-pressed sheets anyone? It's almoswt a slave relationship-but then it is Louisiana and not all slaves were poorly treated. I have someone clean my house now but it's two gay guys?
  • I don't but I have had person who comes in and helps clean either on a regular or special basis. And I've known a few family members that have done so as well. I've never known any of these housekeepers to be treated badly or like a slave. They are even assisted and fed and become close friends with great respect. Just because they clean for a living doesn't mean squat.
  • There's a difference?
  • Our cleaning people come at whatever time they feel like coming once a week, sometimes they don't even show up. We clean up ourselves, it's not like we need them but they should really show some consideration before trying to knock on our door at 2 in the morning. We treat them like an employee.
  • Me having a maid there would be two hopes of that ever happening Bob Hope and No Hope:-)
  • We dont have a maid persay. We have a woman who comes in three times a week to clean. We treat her more like a friend than anything else. How else could you treat someone you trust to come into your home?
  • I had one. I treated her well like a valued employee. She started treating me poorly and crossing boundaries. Now she is unemployed.
  • This question reminded me of the song from the play and movie, "A Funny Thing Hpaaened on the Way to the Forum".
  • Everybody ought to have a maid. Someone who, when fixing you your dinner will be winsome as a whip-or-will and quieter than a mouse!
  • Slaves were outlawed. That's why I have children. (jk)
  • She's an employee but I treat her like a friend. We get along just fine.
  • I treat her like a family member...she has been there for me through some very hard times.
  • If I did have a maid, we would treat her like a family member.
  • I have a housekeeper and gardener and I treat them with respect. I employ them but we have mutual respect for one another.
  • When I was growing up we had a maid, we treated her like part of the family.
  • these days employees are slaves. economic slaves. it is amazing how they were able to take a job market where there are more jobs than people to fill them and change it from competing for employees with higher wages they make employees compete for second and third jobs by lowering wages.
  • no, ive never had one, well for a short time I had a cleaner, but it didnt work very well, so it was a quick adventure, I had to go back to doing all the cleaning myself......
