I'm worried about being laid off. I work for Jewel Food Stores, the largest grocery retailer in Chicagoland. The company is ok, but they are cutting costs everywhere because the sales are not there. There is no talk about closing stores, but there is talk of moving bodies around. I'm worried that I will be laid off because we are a union shop and I am one of the most junior people in my position. No matter how good I am, I am junior, so I would be one of the first to go.

Too much work for one person in my appliance department. Top that off with 3 Assistant Managers telling me that my department goal is way too low because the employee who worked the morning shift was slacking off in the warehouse. And don't forget the Department Manager telling you that you can not have a raise because our department did not sell enough accessories. Customers who rush into the store and demand to be waited on even though your shift was over 10 minutes ago. LOL....Pretty much everything sets off my high anxiety meter at work every day.

Late shipments that cause downtime and late paperwork from the staff which in turn puts added pressure on me to meet deadlines.

Being yelled at all day, dealing with customers after someone else messed up in the first place, demanding customers who want something I can't give and will scream at me until they get it or until they get tired (usually the case unless I got an override by a supervisor), getting hit on by customers (has happened), horrible pay, unflexible schedules, basically, everything.

Doing a bad job. I'm a mommy. If I do a bad job, the results can ruin lives. My own children's lives.

It's just a start-up company, and with the economic turmoil these days, it might shut down. Well, I'm just on leave at my other job, so I would not be jobless even if the start-up company shuts down. But I like my present one (the start-up company) because my salary is higher.
