as accurate as those who wrote it want it to be

No. There are too many factors involved for anything to be 100% acurate. There are always influences and agendas involved in the telling of any story, especially one on tv. I prefer to find multiple sources from differing sides/angles of the story to get a bigger picture of it all.

I know for a fact is isn't. They purposefully have shows that are entertainment driven, as opposed to educational.

History is mostly inacurate/biased. People write/teach/broadcast what they WANT to believe.

While I personally find the History Channel fascinating, and watch it quite a bit, there are people who are pretty obsessed with finding and pointing out any inaccuracies they come across. Often their "facts" are inaccurate themselves, which then lead to entire debates all on their own. one example - http://www.allempires.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=6304 The way I see it, I don't think it's possible for there to actually be 100% accuracy when dealing with events that weren't either witnessed firsthand or clearly documented at the time of the event. Even amongst eye-witnesses to a current event such as a bank robbery or auto accident there are discrepancies between the accounts. However, I believe that those who produce the various documentaries strive for as much accuracy as possible given the sources they have available, and I don't believe that any bias is ever intended. In some cases, such as re-enactments, or new archaeological findings, conjecture is involved and the reasoning is explained. It may not necessarily be accurate, but it is the latest theory and best explanation available to us at the time.

Most likely not. Historians put their own thoughts and opinions into it, and the film producers probably exaggerate certain points to make it more exciting than it actually might be.
