  • Why wouldn't you want to insult the guys who knocked up a chick and have little to do with the kid they created other than the mere act of procreation and MAYBE alimony?
  • You're right, it does seem disparaging to the father. I admit that I use it, but only when a father's acting like a deadbeat or going around fathering babies with multiple women. In that case, my intent IS to be disparaging...!
  • Darn straight it is. It is demeaning to those of us that father and parent our children. It is just another term used in order to dismiss fathers as a necessary evil. It reduces us to sperm donors.
  • I dislike it. It is a lazy way to say it. Why not add an 's' and an apostrophe? (i.e., my baby's daddy) Some may think it is cute, but I don't.
  • I asked my son, and he said he loves being a baby daddy. His son is the best thing that ever happened to him.
  • Sorry havent heard anyone say 'baby daddy' only 'my Baby's Daddy' but still dont think of it as insulting. There just WORDS.
  • Sounds trashy to me....
  • I have no idea what it means , I have never heard of it.
  • He wouldn't be the baby daddy if he married her, then he'd be the baby's father.
  • I only ever use it jokingly, or to refer to trashy deadbeat dad sort of people. I do agree it seems insulting to the father.
  • I have to confess I have not heard that, Cyndi. Do people actually refer to a father as a baby daddy? It sounds awfully precious to me but if the person who is called that doesn't mind I guess it wouldn't bother me to hear it! :) Happy Saturday! :) ((hugs))
  • This is one of those questions that remind me I'm getting old. Back in the day, having a child out of wedlock was considered disgraceful. A woman having multiple children out of wedlock was unconscionable. She was considered a whore. "Baby daddy" says "To hell with all that. The kid's "father" is just the sperm donor...I don't care what you think about it." It's probably a healthier attitute since kids aren't stigmatized anymore, but it sounds so... ...ignorant (for lack of a better term). I cringe everytime I hear it.
  • nothing wrong with it! no no, its not an insult!!
  • It is insulting to the guy, and to the women. But in some cases maybe its ok to use like my "baby daddy" who was never there and a dead beat dad.
  • It sounds very trashy.
  • the term comes from woman who dont know the name of the father because they were whores, who gave it up too easy. im kidding they know the names but it would nt do any good to use then since the father is long gone.
  • It just doesn't make sense - how can a baby be a father? It's yet another example of the way that laziness is corrupting the language.
  • This term was soo heavily used back in the day (90's) especially. there was even a movie made with the title. I dont refer to him as anything related to being a father. He isnt even worthy of being called a "sperm donor" Dont know how, but I will see to it my child never mentions any reference to "it" in my home. right now he is just "the other" but my family prefers to say "sperm donor"
  • Personally I call my sons father my baby daddy and its only because he participates in my sons life at his discretion. Any fool can make a baby ,but it takes a real man to be a father or even earn the title "father."
  • I agree. same thing with baby momma
  • Every time I see a question here referring to 'my man' and 'my baby daddy' I feel like exploding. Yet, women get offended when men refer to them with similar terms
  • "Baby daddy" is only insulting to the rules of grammar
  • "Baby daddy"..."Sperm donor"..."Good-for-nothing-mother-f*cker"...What's in a name, anyhoo?
  • I feel that it show's just how much some people have zero self respect or at that rate, have no respect for anyone else.
  • Baby daddy... I wish that the mothers would just use the guys name because baby daddy makes them sound like they dont know the guys name and well if they dont know the guys name it kind of makes them sound like whores.
  • to me its pretty ghetto. but where i come from they used to say " the little bastard's putz father". it's a lil more expressive i think. oh yeah one more they used to say is " that a%%hole who f%#*ed me and i dont don't get s&#t from for support for this damn kid". another good one.
  • very ghetto
  • "baby's mom" or "baby's daddy" Is so ghetto, If I had children you would not catch me saying " I need to call my baby daddy" that's just ridiculous.
  • I don't refer to my baby's father as that all the time, but occasionally i'll use it. I don't call him that when i'm actually talking but if i'm talking about him in writing or in text form i do. The term is used for us aswell i was talking to one of my ex's/babydaddy's(sorry!!) friend's the other day and when i was leaving, i heard someone say "who was that" and the reply was "Josh's babymamma" so it goes both ways. The person who said it was femail. Guys don't tend to use it. It's not used to be disrespectful. It's just a less formal term.
  • It makes me feel SICK at heart! What I hear when that is said, is that there are two self-centered assholes who decided they both wanted a fuck, for whatever reason was in their pea-brains at the moment...and didn't really bother to consider for any actual length of time...that they MIGHT have a child as a result of their actions...they DIDN'T CARE ENOUGH for each other, or a possible child...to use protection, or to consider if they even really loved or could grow to love each other for more than enough time to get their jollies. It pisses me off...royally! It makes me feel sad, that some girl or woman thought so little of herself that she sleeps around with so many guys she hasn't even got a CLUE as to WHO is the "baby daddy!" And it makes me sad that so many young men are so very content to just go around WITHOUT PROTECTION, getting these needy, dumb girls pregnant...with no concern that they are MAKING BABIES ...WHO NEED LOVING AND INTELLIGENT PARENTS so they can grow up and have a loving, supportive and nurturing childhood to produce a reasonably intelligent, loving, happy, PRODUCTIVE member of society! To me it is a sign of a person who has no respect for themselves...and few, if any, morals towards humanity.
  • It just sounds silly to me. It's like he was a sperm donor only and not a person.
  • I think its insulting to the whole family. Not just the dad, but the mother, and especially the children.
  • I don't really care, if your having kids with someone you don't care enough about to stick around with then I don't think you deserve very much respect.
  • It's still better then "Bobo, the sperm guy" ;)
  • i think its insulting to the dad AND mom. Baby daddy to me sounds like it was just a fling.. and the man was nothing more than a sperm donor. It is a scumbag term and i hate it.
  • It is insulting to the mother and the father. It is a "trash talk" term that most people (I hope) would not use in front of their children.
  • Extreme Ghetto, its a black thing
  • A little insulting and a lot trashy.
  • I agree with those who see this term as coarse and insulting to all parties.
