It seems harsh, but it is in line with the belief in many Asian countries that individuality does not exist ie the family should have taken steps to make sure the suicide did not happen.(and is therefore responsible for the consequences). We in the west may not like it, but that is the reality in Japan.

Wow, that's harsh. I guess the bottom line is, if you want to kill yourself, find another way. I used to live by a train, and there were quite a few people who did this, it was awful because they would explode when the train hit them.
