Just read it out and there you go. I say it by the three syllables that it is composed of and am happy with that.

"New'-fin-lind" :) I stopped through there a few months ago. Very interesting that they're in their own time zone 1/2 hour different (rather than 1 hr) from all others :)

either new found land or newfun land is acceptable

NΓ©wfunlund. Had a friend from there a long, long time ago. He corrected me a few times for saying NewFoundland, with my southern-ish accent.

It is whatever the residents want to hear. I am in Melbourne, Australia right now but the residents all pronounce it "Mel-bun"--and that is the way they want it.

My mother is from Newfoundland. Here is the answer from Wikipedia, which suprisingly, is correct! Newfoundlanders pronounce Newfoundland to rhyme with 'understand,' placing emphasis on -LAND, not New or found-. It sounds something like "newfin-LAND." Canadians outside of the Atlantic provinces (therefore, discluding Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia as well as Newfoundland) and tourists are noted for their incorrect pronunciation of Newfoundland as "new-FOUND-lind", "NEW-fin-lind" or "NEW-found-lind." Just remember, it rhymes with "understand" "Newfinland"
